Can you hear Mourinho's drums Fernando?

As you would have seen and read almost everywhere over the last couple of days, the future of Fernando Torres is under increased scrutiny. This afternoon in his pre match press conference, Jose Mourinho backed his man for the remaining games of the season.

When asked of Torres, speculation of his future and if he still has a future at Stamford Bridge beyond this season, Mourinho said:

"Yes, he has a future. Obviously everybody wants to improve and we want to improve, that's normal and basic.

He has a contract, he's a good professional, he works hard for the team and brings positive things to the team. Obviously we want him to score more goals, obviously he wants to score more goals, it's not just me that wants it, he wants it.

During his time at the club he's had moments, some of them important moments. But with long periods performing, sometimes in and sometimes out, he hasn't had a lot of stability in his performances.

He's had moments with important goals, despite having not scored a lot during his time at Chelsea, he's always had those moments. I believe in these moments until the end of the season because we have six league matches and one Champions League match that can be transformed into three. I trust that he can have these moments.' 

Now I cannot question Torres and his work rate 99% of the time. One thing we now have to question is his goals and the lack of them. I have backed Fernando Torres from the day he arrived here and will continue to do so until the day he leaves us but, we need to see more goals especially between now and the end of the season.

It's at times like these that we need our big players to stand up to be counted and we need Fernando Torres to be confident and firing. I will admit, the earlier comments made by Mourinho during the course of the season and after PSG the other night wouldn't have helped the confidence of the player, but here he is giving him his public backing.

I still believe that Torres could be sold this summer along with Romelu Lukau as we continue to read reports of potential signings coming to the club such as Diego Costa and Mandzukic as Mourinho looks to rebuild his strike force.

As for now and from the moment he arrived at Chelsea, all I want is for Fernando Torres to play well and to score goals that could bring us success. I'm hoping that starts tomorrow against Stoke.
