Goldenballs himself is still keeping himself in the public eye one way or another these days with Sport Relief appearances in Peckham and plans to start an MLS franchise on the cards. Ahead of our game in Paris tonight, Beckham has tipped his old club to knock Chelsea out of the Champions League.
He said:
"Every time people mention PSG to me, I smile because I had six months of pleasure there with the players I was playing with, with the fans, the club – it’s such a great club.
I was welcomed by the club with open arms, it was an incredible six months. The position they’re in … they’ve got such a strong unit, with strong players.
The owners that run the club, they want to best and they’ve got the best. Thiago Silva, for instance, is the best defender in the world.
Zlatan is a character but he’s also one of the best players I’ve played with. He’s a great man. He’s a player that I loved playing with.
I think they’ve got a real chance in the Champions League this year. They’re coming up against a Chelsea team, with Jose Mourinho as manager, he takes the team to a different level but I do think that they have a got a good chance.’
Anyone can have an opinion and you have to respect it. Without question PSG have got some real big players and players of quality but when you reach this stage of the competition experience plays a huge part in games like these.
Chelsea have that experience in abundance compared to the Parisian side and it will be interesting to see the progress they have made over the two legs.
The draw has been favourable to Chelsea and playing the first leg gives us a slight advantage.
Jose Mourinho and this Chelsea team know exactly what it takes to get the job done on these big European nights. If anyone can go there and keep a clean sheet it's Chelsea. If anyone can go to to Paris a beat PSG it's Chelsea and Laurent Blanc and his players will be more than aware of that.
Of course anyone has a chance in any game and PSG has as much of a chance as Chelsea to progress to the semi finals. It's how the players cope with the pressure of expectation on the biggest club stage of all, which will decide the outcome over the two games.
Beckham can think what he likes, he probably thought David Moyes was a good signing!
