Well who would have predicted that result last night apart from the Sunderland faithful at Eastlands? Man City are now playing a chasing game after drawing 2-2 at home last night. Surely that result hands the advantage to Liverpool and Chelsea in the title race!
If you ask me, it was perfect and sets everything up perfectly for next weekend at Anfield with Chelsea being just two points behind the league leaders. For the first time for what seems like a lifetime, Chelsea are no longer looking over their shoulders at City waiting for them to win their games and move above us. Jose Mourinho and his Chelsea players have eyes on a single target - Liverpool.
Now I have always said that points on the board are more important rather that having to play catch up. I wondered if Man City would be able to cope with playing games every couple of days now to get back on terms with the rest of us and last night, without Yaya Toure for the next three weeks, was the first sign that they are unable to. The Liverpool defeat has hit them hard.
As for Liverpool and Chelsea? Well I still think ahead of our game at Anfield this weekends fixtures are HUGE! Chelsea play first at Stamford Bridge against Gus Poyet's Sunderland who were unlucky not to come away with three points against City last night, while Liverpool face Norwich away on Sunday possibly without Danny Sturridge.
To be successful you need to get things right when push comes to shove and when you reach the business end of the season. This weekends games are just as important as any other we have both faced this season beforehand.
A Chelsea win over Sunderland puts us top and a point above Liverpool before they take on Norwich the day after. A point against Sunderland is not good enough in my view. If Chelsea DO win against Sunderland, they will put the pressure on the Anfield club and it will be interesting to see how they react.
Norwich like Sunderland are fighting for their lives and Premier League survival. The difference between the two sides is with Norwich having the advantage of playing at home this week compared to Sunderland, this is more than a potential banana skin for Liverpool. Make no mistake, this is a massive game.
As I posted earlier this week, if there is one team that could travel to Anfield and beat Liverpool, it's Chelsea! You know it, I know it, the world knows it and most of all, in the back of their minds, Liverpool fans know it.
The week coming up could see a major swing in the title race from a week ago. City have stumbled picking up just a single point from six and have handed the advantage over to Liverpool and Chelsea now.
This week it comes down to who can hold their nerve and deliver six points to take control with just two games remaining in the season.
All eyes on Stamford Bridge and Carrow Road!
