This summer could potentially be one of the busiest we have ever seen at Chelsea. With plenty of players being linked with a move to and from Stamford Bridge one player is sure to become the subject of interest and that's Romelu Lukaku. If this report in The Telegraph is true, Tottenham have made the Belgian their number one target.
Romelu Lukaku divides opinion amongst Chelsea fans if we are honest and his future here under Mourinho remains unclear. It will be interesting to see Mourinho's stance on the forward after he left the club in what seemed like confusing circumstances at the last minute last August.
Lukaku has demonstrated at West Brom last season and this term at Everton, that he can more than cope with the demands of Premier League football. The question remains whether or not his natural playing style fits in with the vision of Mourinho.
You look at how Chelsea play now and it's all about pace and movement up front. We have moved away from the way we used to play when Didier Drogba led the line up top and if anything, you could argue that Lukaku was brought into the club for that to continue.
As reported on the blog back at the end of the transfer window in August, Lukaku fell out of favour with Mourinho, realised he wouldn't get as much game time as he wanted and submitted a formal transfer request which was rejected by the club until a compromise was reached to send him out on loan to Goodison Park.
So to these reports that Tottenham have made Lukaku their number one target. I can see that and if you read the article it states that Daniel Levy tried to sign Lukaku last summer and offered Adebayor as part exchange!
Again, looking at the vision our manager had back then, you can see why that was turned down. As we saw against Arsenal on Saturday, we are finally playing with the intensity and pace that we have worked hard all season to produce and someone like Adebayor or Lukaku wouldn't fit in my eyes.
Chelsea have numerous players of a certain age and value out on loan at the moment because Chelsea cannot offer them the first team football they crave. These players will be used to balance the books under FFP during the summer as Jose Mourinho looks to complete his jigsaw ahead of his title challenge next season.
Big name strikers are being linked with Chelsea, players who are lethal in front of goal, have terrific movement and pace to burn and if Tottenham come in with a bid of around £25-30m this summer, I believe Jose Mourinho could be tempted to sell.
What do you people think about Lukaku and these reports? Do you think he has a future at Stamford Bridge?
