Andre Schurrle has taken most of the plaudits for his devastating hat trick at Craven Cottage on Saturday but there is one man Jose Mourinho praised for leading the Chelsea performance in the second half and that was Eden Hazard.
Speaking after a dreadful first half performance, Mourinho took time out to praise the young Belgian who has been outstanding this season so far.
Jose delivered his ten second message to his players and walked out at half time. He trusted his players to react and Mourinho said after the game:
“The fact Eden came here in the second half and felt the team needed him to make them click is fantastic.
He felt in the second half that the team needs someone to create and he made them click and after that the team followed him.
Oscar was moving, Andre was moving, Matic was coming up to support, Ramires was walking into areas where he can also be dangerous.
He had that responsibility as an attacking player that if the team is not producing for you, you either wait and the production never starts or you decide I have to try by myself.
He dropped back, and he started getting the ball in deep areas, starting beating people and from that position we started having more spaces to play.”
The manager was spot on. Hazard showed a real drive and determination to make things happen for us in a way he struggled to do in the first half.
Of late, Hazard's performances had not been the best and he looked below par. If anything, I wrote an article after the Galatasaray game asking if he should have been rested for Fulham. Thankfully he wasn't and as this video shows below, in the second half, Hazard was instrumental in everything positive about our performance.
