Whatever happens between now and the end of the season, there is one player who should be right up there in contention with others for the Player of the Year award and that's Gary Cahill.
We read everyday comment and focus on Jose Mourinho, John Terry and Eden Hazard but it's important that we should not forget the MASSIVE impact Gary Cahill has had on Jose Mourinho and this Chelsea team.
I think it's fair comment to say that in the beginning, Cahill was the subject of rotation and found himself in and out of the starting eleven as Mourinho chose to rotate him with David Luiz. Now, Cahill has to be one of the first names on the Chelsea team sheet week in, week out.
Chelsea have the best defensive record in the Premier League and that's down to the team as a whole defending without the ball and the back four in front of Petr Cech, but no one could play down the impact Cahill has had.
He came here with masses of potential for a small £7m fee which has turned out to be a steal. Working alongside John Terry, we always knew he would have to chance to watch, learn, listen and to develop his game. If anything, he is arguably, our best defender.
Anyone who reads my Blog on a regular basis will know that I have spoken of Cahill before, I love the bloke and his attitude to the game.
Cahill is one of the old school types of defenders. He works so hard to throw everything at the ball to stop someone from scoring. You only have to have a look at his face when he blokes a chance or his reaction and you can see it means everything to him.
Just how many times can you remember Cahill coming from nowhere and making a last ditch block or tackle? How many times have you heard the commentator say "It's Cahill again with the block!" His performances have literally been amazing.
I want you to have a look at both of these videos below because they sum up Cahill this season perfectly.
The first is a compilation of earlier performances and show just how influential he has become:
The second his Cahill's individual performance in our 1-0 away win against Manchester City. In this video, you can count just how many times Cahill thwarted City. The thing is, he does it week in, week out !
Whatever happens this season and no matter if Chelsea win titles or if they do not. There are so many positives about this season under Jose Mourinho. One of them is Gary Cahill without question.
It's funny because at the start of the season Jose Mourinho stated that there are no longer any invincibles in his Chelsea squad.
Gary Cahill's performances so far have surely convinced the manager to change his mind!
