Chelsea's forgotten man Marko Marin has expressed an interest in turning his loan spell in La Liga with Sevilla into a permanent transfer. If you were to ask me, the club should be willing to get the deal done.
I will admit, for the most part this season, I have been wrapped up in what is happening with the first team but that's only natural. That's not to say that I do not take an interest in what's happening with the players we have out on loan at the moment but there are some of those players I see as never becoming part and parcel of Jose's squad. I'm sorry but Marko Marin IS one of those players.
Some people will say that he has never really been given much of a chance at Chelsea, some people will say that his first season was a difficult time for him with having to adjust to life in England, to get used to Roberto Di Matteo and then Rafa Benitez and I can understand that.
However, the problem with Marin for me is now the competition he faces and if we believe that he could do enough to force his way in. Chelsea's transfer business back in August and January this season tells me that he doesn't.
Think, Mohamed Salah and Willian have been brought into the club by Jose Mourinho. Eden Hazard and Andre Schurrle are already here so I cannot see Marin being able to force any of those players out. Can you?
Speaking this week, Marin was asked of his future and said:
“If both Sevilla and me are happy to stay I can stay here forever.
We’ll see what happens in the summer. The first is to play, being fit and helping the team in the end of the season and then we will decide.
If the fans want, Monchi (the sporting director) wants and the coach wants, why not?
But the most important thing is to be fit and play.
Speaking about a permanent move before that is not worthy because I can’t help the team if I do not play.”
Chelsea signed Marin for a reported £6.5m back in the summer of 2012. You would imagine the club would be looking to recoup some form of profit from the deal so expect a the club to command a fee of around £8m from Sevilla.
What do you people think of Marko Marin? I have nothing personal against him at all and if remains a Chelsea player I would get right behind him and support him. Am I being unkind or like me do you see his future elsewhere?
