Chelsea fans roar team on to victory

Chelsea fans raised the decibel levels at Stamford Bridge on Saturday afternoon as they cheered the Blues on to a 6-0 victory against title rivals Arsenal.

As the goals flew in at the Bridge, the home fans could be heard making as much noise as a turbofan aircraft taking-off. That is 110 decibels according to a study by club partners Gazprom.

Using high-tech audio equipment, the Global Energy Partner for Chelsea measured the decibel levels at five-minute intervals throughout the game. The average level of noise made by Chelsea fans during the 90-minute rout was 88 decibels.

At kick off the home crowd was singing at the top of their voices, generating 99 decibels of noise. And that increased to 110 decibels when Samuel Eto’o scored the first goal in the fifth minute, a level that was matched when André Schürrle doubled the lead two minutes later.

On an afternoon jam packed with drama and full of goals the key incidents were as follows:

·         5 minutes – 110 decibels - Samuel Eto’o scores Chelsea’s first

·         7 minutes – 110 decibels - Andre Schurrle drills home Chelsea’s second

·         16 minutes – 108 decibels - Eden Hazard converts from the spot

·         42 minutes – 109 decibels – Oscar scores Chelsea’s fourth

·         Half-time – 100 decibels – the fans applaud as the players leave the pitch

·         67 minutes – 106 decibels – Oscar makes it 5-0 Chelsea

·         71 minutes – 110 decibels – new boy Mohamed Salah makes it 6-0

·         Full time – 96 decibels – the fans celebrate a memorable victory

Gazprom spokesperson Dmitry Amelin said: “The atmosphere and the noise coming from the fans at Stamford Bridge on Saturday was incredible. Their energy levels are amazing; it really gives the players a boost. It was a famous win at a crucial stage of the season.”
