Throughout his time at Chelsea, Petr Cech has offered been given the opportunity to talk to the media and to the press. As one of the old school amongst the current squad, Cech has re-iterated that we have a team that knows how to finish off a Premier League season, to ignore everybody else and to purely concentrate on what we have to do as a club game by game.
Much has been made of the title race and the various games in hand people have. If you missed it yesterday, I have written a post looking ahead to the weekend stating that I believe ALL our rivals will drop points. Make sure you take a read!
It's all well and good for us supporters to speculate and consider the various permutations between now and the end of the season but for Cech and the players, it's a very different story.
Cech said:
"In the past, it's fair to say we've not let leads slip. Of course, this is a different team and a different scenario, a different season, so it is hard to compare. But we know how to play under pressure until the last game.
In recent years, we have been in these situations, so if we can do it again, that is what we will try to do.
If you're top, you have to keep winning to stay top. If you're second, you need to keep winning to have a chance and you don't have things in your hands. So the pressure is the same.
If you have a point's difference, are in second and chasing and the team top doesn't drop any points, it is tough.
The pressure is the same whether you are first, second or third. Everyone keeps trying to do that. What you need - and what we have - is the approach of going game by game.
A lot of people tend to watch the table too much when you come to the end of the season and if you keep watching the table and every other results you lose the focus on what you do.
We don't do that. We focus on our games and our results. All we can do from now to the end of the season is to win our games.
I don't have any power to change the game Arsenal will play this week or what City will do in their games in hand. I have no way to help the other teams to beat them, so I concentrate on what I can do help this team win the games we have; and that's why we have always had good ends of the season because we focus on ourselves.
We know that people are looking at our run-in and saying it's easier but nothing in the Premier League is easy. What counts is that we go game by game. My next game is Villa away [on Saturday] - a difficult place to go, and we want to win there again."
He always speaks very, very well and he is always realistic in his opinion and approach to the game. Like me and plenty of others, it would easy to go over the top about being top of the league and to lose perspective but he brings you back to reality with a calming influence.
He is spot on here, Chelsea need to take things one game at a time and to see where it takes us. We are in a fantastic position and just need to ensure we win each and every game concentrating on ourselves and no one else.
The pressures that come with fighting for success will become apparent between now and the end of the season. What's important to remember compared to the others is that we have a manager who knows how to win and plenty of big game experience with the likes of Cech, Lampard, Cole and Terry from Jose's time here before and the majority of our squad from last two seasons with winning the Champions League, Europa League and FA Cup.
Let's try not to get carried away as Cech says, focus on the games WE have left.
