REPORT: January bid for Costa turned down - Torres used as bait in the Summer?

According to reports in Spain, Chelsea failed with a bid to sign Diego Costa last month. This summer, Chelsea are preparing to offer £20m plus Fernando Torres to get the deal done!

Once again I have to emphasise that these are only reports  and could have little substance whatsoever but let's just think about it as if it does for the time being, could you see something like this happening?

The Fernando Torres link to Atletico Madrid will never, ever go away because it's the side he supports, the side he played for, Captained and has openly admitted that he would love to return there one day to finish his career.

Speaking in April last year, Torres said:

“I've never hidden that I am grateful because Atletico gave me many things, but the reality is I am in another team and I have three more years on my contract.  I have a lot of things to give to Chelsea and many things to prove to myself before returning home. Right now, returning to Atletico is not a reality.” 

One year on and you have to wonder what the situation with Torres is at Chelsea under Mourinho. I am 100% sure that he likes him because of the shift he continues to put into his performance when he plays. The lack of goals still hampers Torres and that could be the key factor. We only have to look at what happened with Juan Mata to see that despite Mourinho stating that he likes a player, it doesn't mean they are in his plans.

As for Diego Costa? I am not 100% convinced to be honest and I am wondering how you people feel about him? Do you think he could be the final piece in our puzzle or would he struggle in the Premier League?

I have to admit, I have not seen much of La Liga this season but, in the games I have seen Atletico, Costa has not impressed me at all!

I hope that these reports are pure speculation and nothing more as I believe Torres has a future here with Chelsea and with Mourinho in particular. If anyone can bring the best out of Torres it's Jose and given time, I believe he can still do that.

As for a bid being turned down last month for Costa as being reported in Spain? I am not so sure but I will say one thing, Chelsea WERE prepared to sell Demba Ba and pulled the plug in the last minute due to an injury to Torres. Make of that what you will!
