Oscar's performance levels have dropped in recent weeks culminating in a really disappointing first half performance against Everton this afternoon. Is it time he is given a rest?
I know that Oscar was named on the bench in both games against Man City but you would think that with being named in the side starting today, he would be keen to make an impression.
Chelsea's overall performance in the first half was not good enough and as I wrote in my match report here, our play was too slow and too laboured.
Oscar really struggled to get involved in the game. When he did he lost the ball or just didn't seem to have any conviction in his game. He also was booked for the 4th time this season to put the icing on his cake.
The problem is that we face Galatasaray in midweek in our first leg of our Champions League tie and you have to wonder whether or not Jose Mourinho would want to leave him out?
Speaking this week of Oscar, Mourinho said:
"Maybe in the last couple of matches he was not the same, because in the beginning of the season he was the best player in the team.
"He was the player that was really making the difference in the first three, four months of competition.
In this moment he's not being a match-winner, he's not scoring goals, but he's not playing bad. Not real problems.
The talent is there all the time, but the physical top condition to express the quality he has is not always there.
We have to take care of him. He's a young boy. He's not a natural physically strong man, suffers with the accumulation of matches, suffers with the difficult weather we had."
I not sure the weather has played a part as it's the same for everyone and if anything a fellow Brazilian has been outstanding during that time.
Mourinho is right however when he talks of Oscar's performances in the opening months of the season. You look at those compared to today and it's a concern.
Do you believe that Oscar needs a rest or is today just a one off?
