Sitting watching the game against Hull on Saturday, you couldn't help but think that once again Fernando Torres was having a game of little involvement in the final third. Late on, Torres picked the ball up and made a goal from nothing which was just reward.
Have a look for yourselves. Here is a video of every single touch or involvement that Torres had in the game below:
It's so encouraging to see Torres make a goal for himself in games like that. He hardly had a sniff of goal throughout but kept plugging away. Two goals in two away games for Torres now.
Jose Mourinho is more than happy with the Spaniard and once again praised the Chelsea fans for being right behind him from day one.
Jose Mourinho said of Torres:
"Fernando scored against Southampton, now he has scored again. He is enjoying his football more than the last couple of years.
The goals are coming and he is doing what we want him to do: press defenders, hold the ball, wait for support, get behind defenders and he scored.
It is important for him but more important for us."
Also when asked about the continued support Chelsea fans give Torres Mourinho said:
"Chelsea fans are like this. I remember in 2004 when we had Mateja Kezman and he scored his first (league) goal in December, but every time playing at Stamford Bridge people were supporting him.
It helps players, especially in a difficult moment. Players do not feel the heat when things are not going well for them. Special fans. Special club."
Now everyone has their opinion on Fernando Torres whether it's positive or negative. One thing you cannot deny is his willingness to work hard at his game, for the team and for the manager.
Chelsea are linked every single day with a new striker but Fernando Torres keeps his head down, works hard and ignores the rumours and reports.
Just maybe, Torres can really kick on in the second half of the season and score the goals he deserves!
