MOURINHO ON AGENTS "This is the period for agents to be famous."

When Jose Mourinho speaks to the media or the press, we all sit up and listen as he always speaks openly and honestly. This afternoon in light of the recent intense speculation about our players, Jose Mourinho has aimed a dig at the football agents in the game

We are into the January transfer window and as we have all see from various sources, speculation and rumour has literally gone into overdrive and very small percentage of the articles we read everyday have real substance.

In goes hand in hand really if you think about it. Newspapers need to sell copy and agents are always looking to line their pockets! As a result, we sit and read all sorts of crap and pure speculation for the majority of the transfer window being open whether it's during the close season or January.

Of course agents have to do their job and part of that is to make sure they get their clients (players) the best deals. There is so much money in football now because of these mega deals that you can only look from the outside in and feel that it's totally changed from back in the day!

Paying someone 100k, 150k or even 200k is quite simply absurd as no-one is worth that amount of money. However, if these TV companies and Sponsors continue to plough money into the game then of course these agents will want their cut from it!

I just wonder how many footballers have been happy at their current clubs and have never really wanted to leave as they are happy in and outside football with their lives. In walks their agent and talks up a big money move and unsettles the player. A contact is made between the agent and the press and the next thing you know, you read that the player is unsettled at the club and looking to move away.

The club then has to face up to offering the player a more lucrative deal for more money to keep him or the player is sold on, gets a signing on fee and the agent takes his cut!

We all know it happens as we aren't stupid and I totally agree with Mourinho here. It IS a time for agents to become famous!
