In the past week, and as the transfer rumour mill intensifies, Chelsea have been linked with a move for THREE of Europe's top strikers as the current forwards at Stamford Bridge continue to struggle in front of goal.
Gonzalo Higuain, Jackson Martinez and Diego Costa are all being named by the press as potential targets as Jose looks to bolster his options up front during the transfer window.
Now Gonzalo Higuain has been linked with a move to Chelsea before that came to nothing as it looked like he would be moving to Arsenal back in the summer. For one reason or another, that never materialised and he made a switch to Italy and joined Napoli.
According to this report, Napoli would be willing to sell despite the Argentinian striker only being with them for six months, for a reported fee of around £48m and the move would see him link up once again with Jose Mourinho.
I personally really like Higuain. To me he is a natural finisher and is a predator in and around the box. He isn't a link man or someone you would look to feed off of up front. He wants to get on the end of things instead.
Would he be willing to link up with Jose once again if this report does in fact have real substance?
Now Jackson Martinez is another player we are linked with and the player himself has increased speculation of a move to the Premier League next month by stating that Chelsea or Arsenal would be his preferred destinations.
He said:
‘Where would I like to play? When I was a child I rooted for Chelsea and Arsenal. I think the best championships are La Liga, the Premier League and the Bundesliga. It is they [Porto] who have to decide what they want to do with me. If it is to continue here, or send it to a transfer depends very much on them.Martinez is 27 years old and has already scored 14 goals this term for Porto.
Finally, the player they are ALL talking about, Diego Costa of Atletico Madrid.
His goalscoring exploits are there for all to see after everyone wondered what would happen to the side from Madrid after Radamel Falcao left for Monaco.
Atletico are right up there at the top of La Liga battling with Barcelona and Real Madrid and Costa's goals and performances have put him up there with Europe's best at the moment.
According to this report, Chelsea are planning to send some of their scouting team to watch him play early next month and this report has come from the Spanish newspaper El Mundo Deportivo.
It's believed that Costa has a release fee of around £36m in his contract.
So what do you people think? Do you think our forwards can turn things around or do we need to freshen things up?
Now, I personally believe that our strikers are suffering because of the way we play and because of players being greedy and not playing them in when they could. So what happens if we bring one of these three into the club? Do you think they would suffer the same fate?
It will be interesting to see if all this is pure speculation. Jose has said no one would be coming in but surely, with the current lack of goals and players continually not taking their chances, it's something he has to address!
Let's see what happens!
