Ashley Cole faces a fight to save his Chelsea career after losing his place in the team through injury. We have seen Cesar Azpilicueta come in and play well of late but it's believed Cole is more determined than ever to get back into Jose Mourinho's plans!
Without question, Cesar Azpilicueta has been outstanding ever since he came into the side at left back. Game after game, he plays consistently well and at the moment is Jose's preferred starter in that position.
So what of Cole? Well he's 32 now and his contract expires at the end of the season. There are reports that Leighton Baines has forged his way ahead of Cole into the thinking of Roy Hodgson ahead of the World Cup in Brazil next summer so Cole has his hands full!
Jose Mourinho spoke of the situation with Cole and said:
"Any player that normally starts matches, and Ashley starts matches, for all his career, when they don't I think they are naturally not the happiest guy in the camp.
Professionally, he is always a team player, yes, friend of his friends, yes. So I also can say that he deserves to play.
But in my opinion, Azpilicueta is doing really well, so it is a question of Ashley to keep working and waiting for his opportunity. Now it's interesting to hear that Cole isn't exactly the happiest at the moment in light of the situation he finds himself in now. That would explain a tweet he posted on 26th November below stating "Say no more!"
However, according to this report, Cole is more than prepared to do that to prove to Jose Mourinho and the Football club, that he deserves a new contract.
With reports of Chelsea being linked with a loan move for Fabio Coentrao of Real Madrid in this January window, Cole has to work even harder to save his Chelsea future.
What do you people think of Ashley Cole and the situation he is in now? Do you think he deserves to come back into the team and to move Azpilicueta back out wide right in place of Ivanovic or to keep Azpilicueta ahead of him?
Do you also feel as though Cole should be given a new contract?
Carefree & KTBFFH!
