Arsenal fans and players have claimed that Chelsea "parked the bus" at the Emirates last night and we are taking some stick for it. I am asking Chelsea fans around the world if you believe that WAS the case and what you thought of the Chelsea performance?
I believe that was a good point for Chelsea and see's us now just two points off the top of the Premier League. In addition to the Emirates, Chelsea have now taken a point from Old Trafford and White Hart Lane and three points from Man City at Stamford Bridge, a record against our rivals that I am happy with so far!
Jose Mourinho said after the game:
'We came to win, we wanted to win but it was very important not to lose, because if we did we are five points behind the leader. With a point we are two behind the two leaders and that is a completely different picture. We tried to win but we are not unhappy with the point.'
I was surprised with the team selection but thought straight away that it was 4-3-3. We just look better balanced playing that way and you'll notice just how involved Frank Lampard became in and around the final third.
I am not saying here that at times I wasn't frustrated, of course I was! There were times when we really got at Arsenal on the counter attack and our final ball let us down. Second half, Willian breaks down the right, Torres makes a run that takes two defenders away from Eden Hazard wide left. All he had to do was play him the right ball that he could run onto and he was in on goal. What happened? Willian plays the ball behind Hazard who has to check his run and at that, the momentum was gone!
Frank smashed the ball against the crossbar which was unlucky after a fine ball over the top from Hazard which was the closest we came to scoring but late on Arsenal had the better chances and once again, Gary Cahill was outstanding next to John Terry.
People will speak of the Mikel challenge and some others but at the end of the day it was a London derby and you expect these tackles to be made. If they aren't, you wouldn't be happy!
As for our substitutions? I couldn't understand why he took Hazard off as he seemed to be the biggest threat we had to their defence. For me all day long it would have been Willian for Schurrle and move Hazard over to the right hand side but that's just my own view.
You know that in the big games like these, if the game is all square, Jose will shut up shop and take the point (which is and remains a good point!) so that's why David Luiz was introduced with ten minutes to go.
It's important here to remember that the Premier League is not won in December. It's a marathon not a sprint. I am happy with a point, ARE YOU?
Carefree & KTBFFH!
