FOURTEEN goals in just four games, Twenty seven in thirteen games, who says that Jose Mourinho's teams play boring football? Has Mourinho found the perfect balance?
Think about it, the team Jose has inherited has been built on solid defensive foundations that have seen the club create history as they became back-to-back European Champions for the first time ever holding both the Champions League and the Europa League!
Over the past year or so, added to those foundations has been a sprinkle of attacking flair that after one season in the Premier League and the return of Mourinho, fire us to become realistic title contenders after a couple of woeful seasons well of the pace of the leaders.
Chelsea have the ability to defend and to play counter attacking football. I believe we are right up there with the best of them at the moment and have demonstrated the devastating effect it can have in the past couple of games.
We aren't just reliant on counter attack football either. If we want to take the game to the opposition we have fantastic potential and ability to do so.
Jose Mourinho's teams have always been built on solid foundations and teams that can grab and lead and then really dig in to grind out the result. Our team is the same but as last night proved, within seconds of defending our own box, we can spring into attack and really punish teams.
Last night speaking after the game, Schalke defender Benedikt Howedes said:
"We were not clever enough in front of goal. Chelsea were only looking to hit us on the counterattack after the break and they brutally punished us.
We got plenty of chances, but we unfortunately failed to score. Then again, it's no disgrace to lose a game against Chelsea."I just want to point out one thing here before I finish up. Do you remember Jose Mourinho's first season at Chelsea? In the first few games he was trying to find the right balance and the right framework of his team. Still grinding out results and winning games, it was only after a couple of months that the team really took off and starting scoring for fun.
Chelsea went on a fantastic run of games and set a record for the least goals conceded in the Premier League that season.
Does our current form at the moment, the goals we are scoring and the freedom we look like playing with remind of that at all?
