According to this report here, Carlo Ancelotti has identified one of the players he brought to Stamford Bridge in his time here as a potential signing in January. That player is Ramires!
It was a massive surprise to all of us that Mesut Ozil was sold by Real Madrid to Arsenal for £42m on transfer deadline day. We have seen the quality Ozil has and the impact he has made on their team already.
Although Real Madrid signed Gareth Bale for a record fee, it seems that Ancelotti is being backed by the board in a move to take Chelsea's Brazilian midfielder to the Bernabeu. The same report also states that they are willing to sell Xabi Alonso as Ancelotti works to put his own stamp on the squad.
Now as we all know this could be a total nonsense and just something someone has made up to sell their newspaper. On the flip side, what if this report does have substance?
Ancelotti signed Ramires in the first place so it's obvious he is a player he likes very much and you would imagine that Ramires would fit right in at Madrid with his high work rate and his fantastic energy levels.
Over the past few seasons, Ramires has really improved his game. His first touch is now far better than it used to be. He has adapted his game to the physical nature of the football in England and has come to terms with it. If anything as we have seen, he is as combative as the next person!
Most importantly of all, he has added goals to his game and on a consistent basis. Think of just how many times he has popped up with important goals!
The thing that concerns me is exactly that. If there is substance to the story, Ancelotti would have kept an eye on Ramires and would have seen just how much he has improved.
Ramires is only 26 and is under contract at Chelsea until 2017 so if Madrid were to make their move, they would have to spend plenty of money and not £15m that the article states!
At the end of the day, Chelsea are not a selling club and would never want to sell any of their best players to another club. You would imagine if any approach was made, it would be turned down without question but it once again comes down to the wishes of the player.
Let's hope that this is just pure speculation and the story has been made up. Ramires is one of our most consistent performers and if we are to be successful, he will play a massive part in that!
I can't see Jose wanting to do any business with his old club, can you?
What do you think of this story and what's your opinion of Ramires?
