Jose Mourinho held his pre match press conference ahead of the Fulham game tomorrow and has defended what he and the club is trying to do.
He said:
"We want to change and we're going to change.
I agree we must have better results. I agree we are not the kind of club that is going to wait two, three, four, five years to have a team.
We have to accelerate the process, but we are not going to change.
We want this team to play in a certain way and that's the way we're going to work.
The situation is clear, I don't like the way Chelsea was playing in the last couple of years. The club doesn't like. We want to change.
We have the players with the profile to change. We want to play a different style.
The past is history, even my past. I always said I'm here like I've just arrived. I don't want to be protected because of what I did here in the past. It matters absolutely nothing.
When I saw my team play against Bayern Munich I thought the team was brilliant and when you play like that against the champions of Europe, you think you can do it immediately.
But I think it's also part of a process, this instability. We have work to do.
I don't want central defenders playing in midfield. I don't want the team to play with a low block and play long balls to a lonely striker. I don't want to do that.
I'm worried because I lost. I'm worried because I don't want to lose.
If we qualify, this defeat means just a defeat. Nothing else.
We lost nothing. You like scrutiny and you like to compare things.
We didn't finish third in the Champions League group. We didn't get relegated to the Europa League. And we didn't finish third in the Premier League.
We lost one match in the Premier League, the other five contenders for the title, all of them lost a match, except Liverpool, who are top of the league.
In the Champions League we lost a match that we cannot lose, but we were not relegated to the Europa League.
It's not the way you start, it's the way you finish. You want to start good, go good and finish good. That's the perfect picture.
But between starting bad and finishing well, or starting well and finishing bad, I prefer to start bad and finish well.
If you like scrutiny, if you like to make comparisons, you have to wait."(Source)
Straight after reading his comments I thought he spoke well. He puts things into perspective in relation to our rivals in the Premier League and the fact that we have five games remaining in the Champions League group to put things right.
I also like what he said about not wanting to see his defenders in midfield and the team defending with a low block. He is suggesting that we wants the team to push up as a unit and press the ball high which means working hard all over the pitch.
Chelsea under Mourinho are a work in progress and without question we need to improve our performance based on the last few games.
As I said this morning, the pressure is on Jose and the players to deliver a good performance and result tomorrow and the press and media will all be waiting for us to fail.
It will be more than interesting to see who he picks to start the game and if they can deliver three points!
What do you think of what he has had to say today?
