Now, after the Everton game, I wrote an article stating that with us missing out on Wayne Rooney and loaning out Romelu Lukaku to Everton, Chelsea are lacking an alternative up front when we struggle to break teams down that defend deep against us.
(If you haven't read the article, then I suggest you do so as it's spot on in my opinion!)
So what of Lukaku himself? Well, he has been quoted in the media, talking about what he achieved last season, that he thought he deserved a chance here and his aims for the new season at Everton.
He said:
I think after last year, I deserve a chance - like I did the year before, before I went to West Brom.
I thought I deserved that chance, I went to West Brom on loan and did well. This year, I have a point to prove first to myself, that I can do it again, and then to Chelsea, to show that I can be number one over there as well.
It was a great win on Saturday and a great performance. I'm very happy we won.
It was a good solution to come to Everton and I felt a lot of confidence with the manager. I want to do better than I did last year, learn new things and help my new team-mates.
It was my choice to go out on loan. I want to play as much as possible. I have set a goals target for this season - but I'm keeping it personal."(Source)
I wondered how long it would take for Lukaku to speak out about the move. I don't think any of us can argue with the fact that he deserved a chance and it's such a shame that it's away from Chelsea.
If last season is anything to go by and based on the fact that he is still young, learning and developing his game, he will get better and better and will a fantastic asset to Everton.
All eyes on Lukaku this season as I am sure he will prove once again that he could be the alternative we are missing!
