Last week the U21's kicked things off with their first win of the season against Southampton. The game was covered in last weeks post but for those of you interested the highlights from the game can be seen here:
The U18's then followed up with their first game and first win of the season. They hosted Sunderland at Cobham and it was a pretty comfortable game for the young blues as they eventually ran out 3 - 0 winners. 2 goals scored by forward Dom Solanke who has been in very good goalscoring form and is one to look out for this season at U18's level. The other was scored by another one to look out for this season but a name that will more familiar to Chelsea supporters, Charly Musonda who scored a very nice free kick. The highlights of this game can be seen here:
In loan action this week starting in England there was starts for George Saville, Patrick Bamford and Sam Walker but there was to be no involvement for Billy Clifford, Danny Pappoe or Milan Lalkovic, the latter due to injury. The season kicked off this week for our players on loan to La Liga. Thibaut Courtois started both games for Athletico Madrid including a 1 - 1 draw against Barcelona. Marko Marin has been a good start to his season at Sevilla scoring 2 goals in their second game in a Europa League game. Oriol Romeu has yet to feature for Valencia. In Holland meanwhile Patrick Van Aanholt continues to be a regular for Vitesse and this week managed to pick a good assist. Lucas Piazon made his Vitesse debut this week and had a good game but Gael Kakuta still misses out through injury and Christian Cuevas still not eligable to play although he should be this week. Is Belgium Thorgan Hazard is still performing well and this week picked up a brace.
There was confirmation also of yet another loan move for a Chelsea youngster and this time it was for new arrival Stipe Perica who will join Dutch club NAC Breda for the season on loan. Without knowing much about this lad it will be interesting to see how he does there and if Chelsea have managed to find a prospect who is relatively unknown and develop him for our first team.
Today will see the U21's back in action and this time at Stamford Bridge. They will host Leicester City and will be looking to build on the good performance against Sunderland. The U18's will also be in home action today as they host West Ham United in what will be a good early test for this group of U18's players.
Next weeks post will be the last one before the transfer window shuts so i expect there will be a few players who will move on loan for the season before then most notably Josh McEachran and Nathaniel Chalobah both of whom would have been hoping for a Premier League loan.
