It's no surprise to me this afternoon that the press and media have jumped on the bandwagon once again and have 'claimed' that Chelsea have made their first move for Wayne Rooney by having a £10m bid PLUS either Juan Mata or David Luiz rejected!
What total rubbish! I will tell you as to why it is:
Firstly, Wayne Rooney has two years left on his contract. That contract itself, according to the press, is worth between £200,000 to £250,000 per week. Chelsea would need to pay up the rest of the contract in addition to a transfer fee so £10m is way off the mark!
Secondly, Jose Mourinho stated yesterday in his Press Conference ahead of the game against the Singha All-Stars that Chelsea are in a "Solid, stable position, with the right numbers and do not need to sell anyone".
Thirdly, Why on earth would Chelsea EVER consider throwing in Juan Mata who has been the best player in a Chelsea shirt over the last two seasons and David Luiz who only recently signed a new contract at the club?
Finally, The only player that I believe would be sold if we signed Rooney would be Demba Ba.
This whole rumour is just pure speculation based on word of mouth and is complete rubbish. However, I do agree that Chelsea have made their move and it would come as no surprise to me at all.
I still predict that in light of what has happened and in light of a first bid being rejected by United, Wayne Rooney will submit a formal transfer request within days.
Once that happens, the issue of his remaining two years on his contract can be negotiated by Rooney with United (it's not that he is short of money!) and then Chelsea would come in with a bid of around £20 - £25m.
So ignore the reports of players being offered by Chelsea to United, It's simply not true. We do not need to sell anyone.
**Statement just issued by Chelsea**
The terms of (Rooney) offer are confidential but for avoidance of doubt, didn't include transfer or loan of any Chelsea players.
