With pre season in full swing now and games coming quickly at all levels of the club things are starting to come together in preparation for the new season. The first news of the week at academy level was the confirmation that Christian Cuevas had officially signed for Chelsea. Cuevas has signed from Chilean club O'Higgins and is a left sided player able to play as either a left back or a left winger. As an 18 year old he has recently represented Chile at the U20 World Cup. We will wait and see now if he is retained at the club this season or more likely moved out on loan for a higher level of experience.
There has also been confirmation this week from Jose Mourinho himself that a number of young players will be heading out on loan. Those players are Josh McEachran, Nathaniel Chalobah, Lucas Piazon and Wallace. I will cover these more thoroughly once that they have been confirmed but it is suggested that for McEachran, Chalobah and Piazon will be hopefully moved to a Premier League club so this is something to keep an eye out for in the coming weeks leading up to the start of the season.
There was also some match action this week as the U21's pre season fixtures moved onto the next stage when they faced Sutton United. A relatively young U21's side including new signings Isaiah Brown and the aforementioned Cuevas eventually ran out 4 - 0 winners with Kiwomya bagging his 3rd goal of pre season followed by Brown, Davilla and Swift getting in on the goal scoring action. Short highlights of that game can be seen here:
Finally for this week on the back of last weeks announcement of the U21's fixtures there is now confirmation of the U18's fixtures. Again there has been change at this level from last seasons format but it is different to the U21's format. This year there are 2 groups at U18's split between north and south. Chelsea will play each team in their group home and away and each team from the other group once. The top 2 teams from each group will then play off to decide the overall winner. Like last week i will go into the new fixtures in more detail in another post.
In the coming week the U18's will be playing Stevenage and Derby County at Cobham, the U2's will play Colwyn Bay awayand then follow that up with another game against Ilkeston. So there will be plenty to discuss next week.
