Sneijder - Do we need him?

There are some (relatively) believable reports circulating that Wesley Sneijder is seeking a move out of Turkish club Galatasaray. He has been quoted praising the relationship between him and Mourinho, and it was Mou who was truly able to help him blossom while at Inter together. It looks like he could be brought in for somewhere in the region of £12-13 million. The question is, do we need him? Or for that matter, do we want him?

I say no. To both. I fail to see where he would fit in our side. We've already got a world-class playmaker in Mata, with whom I believe Sneijder would be directly competing for positions with. Plus, at 29, and after his "exile" at Inter and his time in the Turkish league, I genuinely don't believe he's anywhere near the top of his game. There's no way he's better than Mata anyhow, and I don't see him taking that spot. As for backup, we've got Hazard and  Oscar already in the squad who can slip into the playmaking position, and as far as I've seen, de Bruyne looks exceptionally comfortable in the center of the pitch as well. I don't believe we'd need another midfielder to come in and disrupt the harmony we have, especially on his wages. He may not cost a lot to buy, but you can bet he'd be asking for wages of at least £150k/week.

I say we use the £12-13 million to bring in a younger defender, or if we must go after a central midfielder, what about using that cash to try and lure Thiago Alacantara from Barca? He's younger, his talent is waxing as opposed to the waning Sneijder's, and he's a student of La Maisa - essentially the "Great Sept at Baelor" of football (excuse the Game of Thrones reference - I'm a bit obsessed at the moment).
