If there's one thing most Chelsea fans complain about it's our link man. Someone who can sit deep in midfield and link defence to attack with a killer pass and quickly at that.
This season and under Rafa Benitez, Chelsea have managed to find that with David Luiz when he has been pushed further forward into one of the two deeper midfield positions. Luiz offers us outstanding ability with the ball at his feet and we have reaped the benefit in certain games.
However, long term I am not 100% certain that Luiz is the answer and let's be honest, apart from the ageing Frank Lampard who can still ping a pass, we have little option with enough quality.
This morning, in addition to continued speculation regarding Jose Mourinho, it appears that Xabi Alonso is now being linked with a move to Chelsea this summer, following Mourinho to Stamford Bridge and I for one would be really pleased if this deal comes off.
I posted yesterday the rumour regarding the £100m transfer kitty the new man in charge is rumoured to be given this summer and the three potential targets Chelsea have in mind. Radamel Falcao, Andre Schurrle and Marouane Felliani are the names being linked with the club but it's my view that only Falcao is one out of the three we should target.
The other two are players that I believe wouldn't come in and command a regular start at the club and if that's the case, why should we bring them here.
As I said at the start of this post, it's all about the link man for me in the Chelsea team. Juan Mata or Eden Hazard spring to mind but they need the ball to be given to them first. This is where Alonso comes in!
We have all seen and we all know that ever since he left Liverpool, they haven't been the same without him. He is one player that can lift his head up in possession of the ball can pick his passes all over the pitch. He very rarely gives the ball away and has been a key player for Madrid under Mourinho.
If Chelsea can get Mourinho and in turn bring Xabi Alonso to Stamford Bridge it would be a major coup in my eyes as I have said, he is someone we need and the likes of Mata, Hazard and Torres once again would reap the benefits.
What do you people think?
