Chelsea are no selling club, far from it as we all know but there is a saying that "everyone has their price" and the situation with David Luiz could become more than a worry this summer.
As reported this time last season, Barcelona were interested in signing David Luiz and a fee of around £35m was being talked about. Now I can't confirm 100% if they approached Chelsea to confirm his availability but nothing happened. Instead, Chelsea took advantage of the situation and offered Luiz a new contract to 2017 and he signed on the dotted line!
Now one year on, Luiz is making headlines once again and it's believed that after their embarrassing drubbing over two legs against Bayern Munich, FC Barcelona have ear-marked Luiz as one of their top transfer target this summer and are rumoured to be putting together an offer of around £40 MILLION! I just wonder if the club would be willing to reject the offer but if Luiz would be happy to ignore an official approach?
Luiz has been a revelation in midfield this season and his goals and contribution to the team in that position have been more than impressive. It's in this position that he is making headlines although he still has his "moments" that we could do without (Brentford etc). Even as a defender Luiz has improved and he is even being talked about this week as a potential future Chelsea Captain.
Luiz has a natural ability to read the game and to see what is going on in front of him. Not everyone has it but those that do have an advantage. You look at him without the ball and it's almost like at times he knows where the ball is going to be played and steps in ahead of the attacker to win the ball back and start a counter attack and he has the ability to spot danger quickly and moves across on the cover to deal with it.
But, it's what he can do with the ball at his feet that is the most impressive. Two footed and more than comfortable striking the ball with either foot, he has it all. His range of passing is fantastic and he makes the game look simple.
This season more than ever, he has added to that with his goals and he has taken his game to the next level and it's because of what he has done this season, the likes of Barcelona and even Pep Guardiola at Bayern Munich could come calling.
Chelsea must do everything they can to hold onto David Luiz. He is and will be an integral part of our team for seasons to come and if "The Special One" comes in this summer, imagine Luiz improving to the next level!
However, when the likes of Barcelona come calling, for a player it's hard to resist.
Carefree & KTBFFH!
