Frank Lampard is in REAL danger of missing out on Bobby Tambling's record at Chelsea with just three games to go in our season. I personally believe that he WILL start against Aston Villa tomorrow but it could be his last start in a Chelsea shirt unless we get his contract situation sorted out.
I sat there yesterday scratching my head wondering why he never came on. Team selection and substitutions are down to the manager but from the opinion I have been reading and hearing, we cannot understand why he was left on the bench when it became obvious that Chelsea needed cool heads and experience in that last 25-30 minutes last night.
It's become evident that Frank Lampard doesn't feature in Rafa Benitez' strongest eleven so we wait and wonder when his time will come. Tomorrow at Villa, Lampard will start next to John Terry as Chelsea look for three points to virtually ensure Champions League football next season.
Will he get chances to equal Tamling's record? I certainly hope so but knowing what we do about Frank, he will keep playing his football, working hard and making those late runs to try and do so.
I can't help but have the feeling that it's just not going to happen through no fault of his own and that would be something that wouldn't sit right with Lampard and the Chelsea supporters.
