As you would have already seen in the media and posted earlier today on this blog here, it's be reported that Roman Abramovich has sanctioned a mega deal for Radamel Falcao to bring him to Stamford Bridge this summer alongside Jose Mourinho. In light of the speculation, Fernando Torres is also featured in the media as he was questioned about the signing of Falcao, his own form and his Chelsea future and he responded by saying:
"When you play for Chelsea you’re always hoping big names come, and the big names are always related with Chelsea. You cannot stop that, especially when the summer comes, and every top player is welcome at Chelsea. Since I came we have only signed top players, so it would not be a surprise if we signed Falcao.
I’m happy at the moment, but I’d be happier if we won the Europa League.
I’ve always felt part of this club. Things change, but you can see this season I have been the main striker. This season has been better for me, but it’s not been at the level I want to be. I really think this club has told me the truth. They have hopes for me and they trust me — they don’t say the opposite. I know I want to stay. If they change their minds it’s a different question, but the relationship between me and the club is very straight. It’s not a problem at all.
I hope there’s more to come as I’m still young. We can win the Europa League this season, but we can still win much more. The squad and players are young — we can do great things. I would like to be involved for the next few years because we can become one of the best teams in Europe, not just England.’
There has been plenty written about Fernando Torres ever since he has been here so I am not going to ramble on talking about the past as there is no point.

Tonight, Torres will lead the Chelsea attack in Basel as Demba Ba is cup tied and it will be his third game in the space of a week. Some said that he suffered earlier in the season because he played in every game, but the one positive about squad rotation under Rafa is that players like Torres still feel fit and sharp at this stage of the year.

Torres has scored 20 goals already this season in all competitions which is a marked improvement and it's been very noticeable to me that ever since he took a whack in the face that broke his nose earlier in the competition, he has become a different player.

He looks hungry again, he has his pace back and desire for goals. At one stage this season, it looked as thought the fans were beginning to turn on him but he carried on with his football and the fans are behind him once again.

I personally cannot see why Chelsea wouldn't want to keep Torres for the remainder of his contract and that's in addition to the possible signing of Mourinho and Falcao. Both are similar players and imagine a side with both of them available for selection with Torres back on form?

The problem Chelsea have at the moment is the situation with our strikers. I do not believe that Demba Ba is a long term solution at all and is a very different player to Torres. Granted his goal scoring is impressive but I still have my reservations about how he fits in the playing style we have now. You look at Mata, Hazard, Oscar and Moses and all are quick players looking to create something out of nothing with pace and Ba doesn't have that as he always seems slightly laboured to me.

Torres gives us a different dimension when he plays alongside them and Falcao would do the same.

I really, sincerely hope that Fernando Torres can have a great finish to the season and scores the goals we need to obtain our objective of a top four finish and hopefully the Europa League.

One year on from Munich there is alot to be said and analysed about how it all went wrong but Torres' form and goals this season is definitely one of the positives!.
