The situation with Kevin De Bruyne in Germany is an interesting one. Tracked by Chelsea for a couple of seasons when he played in Belgium, signed by Chelsea last summer, took an active part on our pre season tour and then loaned to Werder Bremen for a season, it looks as though he will be leaving Chelsea on a permanent deal a year later without kicking a ball in anger for the football club and it sounds ridiculous doesn't it.
I wrote a post a while ago about certain players that had been loaned out for a season away from the club and how it was the wrong decision, that they should all still be here and De Bruyne was one of them.
Then, last week, we found out that it looked like Chelsea had decided to make their move early for Andre Schurrle and part of that deal would be De Bruyne moving to Bayer Leverkusen on loan for another term and it looked pretty straightforward.
However, in the last 24 hours it looks as though Champions League semi finalists Borrusia Dortmund are now a major player in this deal after announcing yesterday that they have agreed a deal to sell Mario Goetze to Bayern Munich for £31.5m. As a result, they have turned their attention to De Bruyne as his replacement and this is the move that the player himself favours!.
If this is the case, then Chelsea will command a fee higher than the fee paid for him last summer and with the money Dortmund will receive from the Goetze deal, that will not be any problem!.
Chelsea will now have to make a decision. Will they have to cave in and pay Leverkusen the full amount for Schurrle which is being touted at around £22m? Will Kevin De Bruyne hold out for the move he wants to Dortmund? Or will Chelsea insist that the player has a future at our club and force a loan move for De Bruyne?
One thing is for sure, it's about time the club takes a chance on some of these youngsters that we have invested big money in such as Lukaku, Courtois and De Bruyne. Seeing them all doing well out on loan playing in big leagues and making a success of their time surely has to be a positive for Chelsea to bring them back here! To sell the likes of Courtois and De Bruyne without even a kicking a ball for the club is ridiculous!
