Rafa Benitez revealed a selection headache ahead of tomorrow tie in Russia against Rubin Kazan in the second leg of our Europa League Quarter Final. Ryan Bertrand has been suffering with a virus and it's touch and go whether or not he will be fit enough to play tomorrow.

With Ashley Cole out injured, it leaves us with a problem at left back and I am just wondering how you think Rafa should play this one?

On Bertrand, Rafa said:
"The last thing I did [after training] was talk with the doctor on the pitch and I was asking her about Ryan. She said he would report [on Wednesday] and we will decide. Anyway we will put him on the list and we will see."

So where does that leave us? As far as I see it, we have three options to cover Bertrand if he is unavailable tomorrow:

  • David Luiz
  • Paulo Ferreira
  • Nathan Ake
Firstly David Luiz is an option and I am sure he has played at left back for Benfica. If he played there, you would have to go with Branislav Ivanovic and JT in the middle with Cesar Azpilicueta at right back.

Secondly, Paulo Ferreira is another option and the best in this instance as far as I am concerned. Having played there for Chelsea and Portugal numerous times, he would be a natural replacement and would allow Luiz to continue in the middle.

Thirdly, Nathan Ake is another option. Would it be wise to play him in such a big game away from home? Would he be able to cope with the pressure? Then again, how else do players like Ake get experience if in situations like this, they are not considered?

I would do with Ferreira. What would YOU do?

  1. Personally I would go with ake as we hv a 3-1 lead. I'd play cech, ivanovic,JT,luiz, ake, lamps, mikel, moses.yossi, hazard and torresm ake will gain vital experiance in this situation and I don't c us losing no matter who plays, we hv 2 keep 1 eye on sunday's semi
