Sir Alex Ferguson has been featured in the written press ahead of the big Manchester derby tonight and there is one point that has got me thinking.

He has been talking about the fact United have literally dominated the Premier League this term and could do now for a number of years. When asked about challengers to their crown he spoke of Man City with their potential to spend big but also spoke of Chelsea. He said:
If Jose goes back to Chelsea as they’re talking about, you’d be expecting a big challenge there.

This leads me to ask the questions:
Why under Jose would we be a big threat next season and we couldn't we have been this time round?
Now one thing people talk about when they refer to Jose Mourinho's management style is that he brings a winning mentality to a football club. We often heard back in 2004/2005 the players talk about it and the club stepped up from there.

This season surely we cannot say we didn't have that can we? We won the FA Cup and the biggest club prize of them all, the Champions League so we have that winning mentality at the club despite our poor performance in the Premier League.

This season is one we should have built on, off the back of the twin successes last term. We had major investment with the likes of Oscar, Eden Hazard and Victor Moses coming in to add to the squad we had but it has never materialised and it's hard to understand why.

Roberto Di Matteo and now under Rafa Benitez have both struggled to put a decent run together and to build on that success last season. The club had so much potential back in the summer, we had SEVEN trophies to fight for and made a right mess of five of them!.

I honestly believe that to be a successful manager these days in the Premier League, you must be as much of a man manager as you are tactically aware and prepared for each game.

You need to be able to man manage your players to get the best out of them. Robbie did it last term and struggled this season towards the end of his reign at Chelsea. I do not believe that Rafa Benitez is a man manager personally as we have heard media reports from Marco Materrazi and Yossi Benyaoun both claiming otherwise.

No doubt when the season is over and the club sits down for a de-briefing, questions will be asked about why things went wrong this term and to make sure it doesn't happen again next season.

As far as man mangement goes, Jose Mourino IS the main man as far as I am concerned and if we literally have everything in place to succeed but need that something extra and get the deal done to bring him back to Chelsea, then I agree with Sir Alex.
