Reports surfaced in the media yesterday morning that Yaya Toure is "furious" with Manchester City and has "demanded" a new contract even though he has two years left to run on his current deal. The Sun has reported that Toure is even willing to "buy out his contract" at City and leave in the summer unless he is given a new deal by Saturday!.
This morning, those reports have snowballed and now Chelsea and Real Madrid are being linked with a £22-£25m move for the big Ivorian as (apparently) we look at Toure as a replacement for Frank Lampard!.
I think there is nothing in this at all and it's pure speculation. Remember the whole Wayne Rooney situation with his contract and "reports" of a move to City? It's complete rubbish if you ask me and if anything, his agent is trying to force City into giving "his client" more money!. At £220,000 per week, you would think he wouldn't need to worry but I guess that's just not enough for Toure or his agent at the moment.
So what if Toure DOES buy out his contract, what would happen? Well, he would become a free agent and would be able to move anywhere he wanted. For example, if Chelsea were to make a move, all we would have to do it pay him a signing on fee and negotiate his contract because there would be no transfer fee involved. He would literally be a free agent as new FIFA rules state that a player can buy out their contracts if they are over the age of 28, have been at the club for over three years and have not been offered a new deal.
As for being Frank Lampard's replacement? I don't see it at all as I see them as different players.
What do you people think?.
(John Terry says Frank Lampard is Chelsea's best ever player here - do you agree?)
