Priorities, Rafa.

Let me start off by apologizing for the upcoming rant. Words cannot express my frustration about the proceedings today leading to the result - I am convinced I watched our Fat-Spanish-Waiter/sorry-excuse-for-a-manager sacrifice crucial Premier League (and more importantly, Champions-League-qualifying) points in favor of starting a stronger squad in the upcoming FA Cup match. I understand that it is crucial that we rotate the squad with the upcoming fixture schedule, but this was just absurd. To me, Rafa made 2 statements today:

1) He values trophies more than what's in the best interest of the club. To me, this move came across as him shifting his efforts towards attaining a trophy as opposed to bettering our position in the table, thus strengthening our position for qualification for the CL next year. Personally, I think he wants to add another trophy to his cabinet to up his 'market value', as he knows he'll be headed out the door the minute the last whistle of the season blows. Also, he really has no reason to invest in the club's future - it won't look good on his resume to say "I qualified for Champions League", but a trophy will be something for him to put down. He clearly doesn't care about what's in the best interest of the club, and to me, that's incredibly frustrating.

2) The second statement I alluded to, I admit is pure speculation. I think the Rafa-Fergie battle has been put first in Benitez's mind. He wants to go out with the upper hand on Ferguson. He also knows this may be one of his last chances to take Fergie down in England. He's putting his own personal rivalry bull....sorry. Ahem. He's putting his own pride in front of the good of the team. Like I said, I apologize for my rant. But today's result was inexcusable in my opinion. The result, I'm convinced, wouldn't have happened had we had a manager with his head on straight at the helm.

So, let me ask you - what do you think about Rafa's decisions today?? Do you think he was right to start our 'B' squad, and risk sacrificing points like that? What's the order of your priority list for the remainder of the season (Premier League, Europa, FA Cup..?)?

I'm really interested to see what a majority of the ChelseaDaft community thinks about today and the decisions that were made, and what our main focus should be for the rest of the season, so let me know with a comment below!
