Will this current crisis of form cost the Blues a top 4 finish?
Well, our qualification for the Champions League next season just got a heck of a lot tougher, after the loss to Newcastle we are now hang...

Our recent form has gotten us into quite a bit of trouble, if we carry on like this we don't have a chance of regaining a place in the Champions League group stages next season. I'm sorry guys but this could mean the Europa League becomes a more permanent fixture for the Blues, so keep your Thursday nights free.
..Sigh..
I 'retweeted' a very interesting stat from @ChelseaStatto (who you should follow, the stats are excellent and eye opening).
RT '@chelseastatto 12 — Under Benitez, @chelseafc have dropped 12 points against the likes of Fulham, West Ham, QPR, Southampton & Reading.'

RT - '@chelseastatto Had we won all those games, which were very much winnable, we would have been just a point behind Man United in 2nd'

To quote one of the visionaries of our time;
I think if you look at the games we didn't win, we could have won all of them (Rafa Benitez 01/02/2013)
(Source)
Wise words Rafa, wise words indeed... We are truly blessed to have your infinite wisdom at our disposal, I have to say your astute analysis never disappoints.
Unfortunately those well crafted words don't cushion the blow, we didn't win said games and are subsequently 19 points behind the league leaders...
WARNING - If you have small children you may want them to leave the room now, this image is not for the faint of heart.

City are 6 points ahead of us with a game to play, meaning they can stretch the gap from us and 2nd to 9 points. We simply have to accept that United and City are well out of our reach this season, we are too far behind to affect anything higher up than third. The problem is we cannot buy a win and meanwhile have Everton and Tottenham breathing down our necks, not to mention the even more frightening prospect of Liverpool slowly creeping up the table (nobody wants to see that!).
IF Spurs win their game today at West Brom [03/02/2013] they will close the gap to 1 point. A further 5 points behind us are Arsenal who have finished the season stronger than they started in the last few campaigns. I am really not feeling confident looking at our recent form, I hope we can turn things around under Rafa but it's not looking likely.

Our current form under Benitez is as follows;
Again the same warning applies as above, this is not pretty viewing.
Played - 21 games
Won - 10
Drawn - 6
Lost - 5
47% win percentage
1 win in our last 6 games
3 games won in 2013

If we do not finish in the top 4 this season will be an unmitigated disaster! Not qualifying for the Champions League could be the start of a snowball effect that pushes a team further and further down the table, but don't take my word for it, just ask Liverpool!
... We have to be playing in the elite competitions to attract the top players.
We need to be playing in Europe because of the huge amount of revenue it creates, especially with FFP coming up as we need to balance our books!
COME ON CHELSEA!
We need to pick up this diabolical form, get back to winning ways and salvage this woeful season with a top 4 finish!

We are in crisis! After finishing 6th last season I thought we would have learnt not to take the lge for granted but it's looking like it's Happening all over again! The players need to take a long hard look at themselves because they are not performing at the level required for chelsea football club! They need to put their heads together at training on Monday and thrash out what's been going wrong and sort it! We can't keep blaming the manager even though he is an absolute twat!!! The players have to take some responsabilty for our poor season so far.
ReplyDeletewatch Jose's seat at Madrid, when that goes, whether rafa is abruptly sacked....
ReplyDeleteChelsea's biggest mistake this season wasn't about sacking Di Matteo as pointed out by many, but the appointment of Rafa Benitez. For the first time in years, I'm afraid for Chelsea.
