Rafa Benitez was featured on in an article within the Spanish Press yesterday and it comes as no surprise really. Initially, he spoke in the early days here as our "Interim Manager" of looking to make his appointment a success and maybe to stay on longer. He kept banging on about how by winning games he would win over the fans. This will never happen and at last it seems that he has come to accept it.
Now in a a move that will upset Jose Mourinho, he has turned his attention to Real Madrid and has begun to talk up a move in the summer.
He said:
“The biggest problem is that I was manager of Liverpool and I am paying for the success I had at Liverpool. Nevertheless, I will keep working hard with professionalism, I am focused on achieving success with Chelsea. I am the happiest man in the world when we win a game.
We are a team in transition and we are the team which has played the most games in all of Europe. You cannot do everything you want to do on a tactical level when you only have so much time.
I have a contract with Chelsea until the end of the season and I am going to do everything possible for this club to have the best success.
Real Madrid have a determined manager with a contract and this deserves respect. As a manager, you always have your sweetheart. I have a link with the fans and they have treated me well. I arrived at Real Madrid when I was 13-years-old and I’m from Madrid. But I don’t want to get involved in this speculation because my words aren’t always interpreted. No doubt the question will be asked of Mourinho as far as Rafa's comments go this week and you can be sure he will respond in a way Jose does. It's a bit naughty of Benitez but then again he knows exactly what he is doing doesn't he.
He says that he is "paying" for the success he had at Liverpool but like I said last week, misses the point once again. We don't give a shit what he achieved at Liverpool it's what he said about us back then that we will never forget.
I'm just glad he is talking like he has accepted the fact when his contract runs out he won't be coming back here!.
