Arguably the biggest mistake of our summer was to let Romelu Lukaku leave on loan this season. With Danny Sturridge struggling with injuries and form, Fernando Torres stepping out from behind the shadow of Didier Drogba was finally given the chance to be our main man and things haven't played out as we would have liked.
Lukaku left, Sturridge was sold and Demba Ba was brought into the club in January to support a "tired" Torres. We have seen games with Chelsea scoring plenty of goals and games where we couldn't hit a cows arse with a banjo and it has been more than frustrating.
The question remains going forward, Who is our strongest option up front?
The main striker.
Fernando Torres is a concern for all of us. We have given him time, stood by him and supported him through difficult times waiting for him to take up the mantle as our main man. He has been given his chance this season and on paper 15 goals in all competitions looks good enough at the moment. The problem is just one single goal in thirteen appearances for the Chelsea isn't!.
My opinion of Torres is changing like most Chelsea fans but I am not prepared to give up on him totally. Given the right service and relying on purely his instincts as a striker, Torres could still finish the season strong before the speculation starts this summer.
Demba Ba made a great start to his Chelsea career with two goals on his debut at Southampton. He provides Chelsea with a different option to Torres. For example Juan Mata's opening goal on Sunday against Brentford came from Ba challenging a long ball up from Cech. His movement off the ball is good and he has already shown glimpses of an understanding with our attacking three.
The thing is, apart from the Mata goal, Ba didn't do much if you are honest and that was down to service from the players supporting him. Like Torres, given the ball in the right areas he score more than he misses.
Victor Moses is another option up front. Moses gives us the option of pace through the middle if we needed it. It's something to consider along with his ability to beat his man.
Who is our strongest option as the main striker?

Ba is the best while because torres is a short 1 in the pitch
ReplyDeletei still have faith and belief in fernando. He is not getting enough chances and service.Hopefully he finishes the season with 20 or more goals.
ReplyDeleteI as well believe on Ba than Torres reason all because Ba motivated his team player and fans that we are still going to net the ball at the net

Get Ramires and Moses in place of Oscar and lampard after 70 mins to get some serious pace
I wonder why some chelsea fans and management shy from the truth,in torres last 15 matches while in liverpool, how many goals did he score?chelsea management are not proactive.Torres should be left on the bench and considered a "bad debt" and lets get on with BA
