On Sunday lunchtime, Chelsea travel down the road (and five minutes from my house) to Griffin Park to take on Brentford in the FA Cup. It's a West London derby and as we know in cup competitions, anything can happen.
Chelsea are odds on favourites of course but we still need to get out on the pitch and get the job done. The question is will Rafa make wholesale changes to the starting eleven and rest players or will he send a strong team out?
I think it's important that Chelsea have a mixture of the two here. We need a sold core throughout the middle of the side to remain strong and it's the ideal time to bring John Terry back in to make his first team return.
I would give Cesar Azpilicueta a rest because he has played plenty of football lately, Petr Cech and Cole also. Paulo Ferreira and Ryan Bertrand to come in either side and Gary Cahill to start next to Terry.
With little cover in midfield now due the latest news about David Luiz, I expect Frank Lampard and Ramires to continue in the deeper positions as we have no other cover there that can do a job tracking back in addition to going forward.
Eden Hazard is due to miss the game through suspension so it's the perfect opportunity for Marko Marin to come in show us what he can do out wide with Juan Mata and Oscar set to continue.
I also expect Fernando Torres to start this one as he was on the bench for Swansea the other night.
Just to re-cap. My starting eleven to take on Brentford on Sunday is as follows:
Turnbull, Ferreira, Cahill, Terry (C), Bertrand, Lampard, Ramires, Oscar, Mata, Marin and Fernando Torres.

I would like to see how we perform in a different formation. I think the 4-2-3-1 is becoming too predictable, especially at home. I want to see the 4-3-3 of Mourinho's time given a go. It's a good ie low risk fixture to try it out. Using your suggestions I would start with Turnbull Ferriera Cahill Terry Bertrand Lampard (DM) Oscar Ramires Mata (RW cutting in) Torres Marin. The main beneficiaries being Ramires who I believe is a top cm not dm and Oscar who would play in his national team position. Just an idea. Thoughts?
ReplyDeleteWould love to see rafa hand a start to islam feruz. Lot of hype surrounding the lad and giving him a start against a league 2 side would be ideal! Also i would want us to go with a strong defence and not underestimate brentford!
ReplyDeleteWhy does everyone but CD see that playing Oscar as a deep lying cm could solve our problems
