As most of you will know by now, Frank Lampard's agent Steve Kutner has been quoted in the press this morning stating:
Chelsea executives told Frank in Japan during the Club World Cup, then again reconfirmed with me after the Everton victory, that under no circumstances will he be offered a new contract to stay at the club after the end of this season.
Nothing since has changed in any respect. Frank has had to accept that and just wants to carry on playing football for Chelsea so as to finish the season as successfully as possible for the club that he loves.I had posted yesterday that the club were thinking about a u-turn with his contract after media reports but this has been proved otherwise this morning.
As you can imagine there is plenty of coverage and comment on this revelation this morning all over the web and social media networks. However, I would like to point you all in the direction of this fantastic article written by Sam Wallace in The Independent.
Everyone will have an opinion on Frank Lampard as we have already seen but I would like to concentrate the focus of this post not on what is going to happen with Frank and his future but what he has achieved so far.
In the article quoted above, Wallace reverts back to a West Ham fans' forum when Harry Redknapp was in charge and Frank was only 17. A disgruntled fan voiced his anger towards Redknapp for favouring Lampard over two other professional players, Scott Canham and Matt Holland.
In response, Redknapp argued Lampard's case and was spot on with his prediction. He said:
"I'll tell you with no shadow of doubt, there will be no comparison [between those two players] and what Frank Lampard achieves. He's got everything needed to become a top-class midfield player. His attitude is first class, he's got strength, he can play, he can pass it and he can score goals."Frank Lampard equalled Kerry Dixon's record of 193 goals for Chelsea at the weekend and in doing so is now joint second on our all time goal scorers list and nine goals behind Bobby Tambling.
There will be no one that comes close to Lampard for a long time and it's only when he does leave this club and gets all the tributes and accolades he deserves that people will understand just how immense he has been for Chelsea Football Club.
There will be a time at the end of the season to pay tribute to Lampard but for now with the news confirmed that he IS leaving us, I just wanted to repost this video, a brief reminder of Lampard's time here.
