One thing we have been waiting for ever since he was sacked, Is to hear what Roberto Di Matteo has to say about his time at Chelsea, his thoughts on his sacking and the appointment of Rafa Benitez has his replacement.
He didn't speak of Benitez, never spoke of his sacking BUT he did thank the Chelsea fans for their continued support ever since he left the club.
He said:
“I had three fantastic months on the Chelsea bench (at the end of last season), but also tough, as we worked up to 18 hours a day to achieve our results. I was pleased to hear the fans cheer my name after I left. It was love at first sight with the supporters the moment I arrived in London and I am sure that love will continue over the years.”Still a gentleman and still different class despite everything that has happened.
Some people doubt RDM and where we would be this season if he would still be in charge but I am not so sure. I have said it time and time again that being a manager these days is as much about man managing your players in addition to being tactically aware and that can be the difference.
Do you honestly believe we would have lost to QPR and at home, drawn to Southampton and defeated over two legs against Swansea if RDM was still in charge or do you believe that he would have us revert back to being defensively solid again with flair going forward but not as attacking as we were before he left us?
I admit the Champions League was different as he cocked that up six months after winning it and I accept that.
I would like to point out our performances this season against Arsenal and Tottenham away as a reminder of what we could have achieved under him. I know there were some bad games with Atletico being one of them but I am sure given time he would have ironed out the teething problems.
Remember how Di Matteo pulled every single player in the squad after he took over from AVB last season? How he sat them down and spoke to them of the situation and what he wanted from them and almost in an instant, the squad were together again, playing for each other and the manager.
I believe he would have done the same again this term because at the moment you look around the players, their body language in games such as QPR, Southampton and Swansea the other night and they aren't together.
It's no surprise that Chelsea fans still sing his name on 16 minutes and I with them will continue to do so as a mark of respect and appreciation to what he achieved with the players last season.
Robbie Di Matteo was stylish and class from the moment he turned up at the Bridge until now. He is Chelsea!

ReplyDeleteRDM, the right man for the chelsea managerial post, i too wil continue singing his name in remainder for his good and great job at/has chelsea manager.
ReplyDeleteROBERTO DI MATTEO for live. . .
I totally agree with this article mr daft, I have heard a lot of ridiculous things said about RDM since his sacking That his tactics were poor, players didn't like his training methods and he wasn't popular behind the scenes but the truth Is, he was sacked coz he dropped Torres and coz Roman never wanted him in the first place we had a small dip in form which did cost us are champs lge place and we dropped down a couple of places in the lge but had he been allowed to do his job and been given demba Ba I have no doubt we would be in a better position than the 1 we are in now
