It's no secret that Chelsea and Roman Abramovich in particular have made every effort to entice Pep Guardiola to Stamford Bridge. If reports are to be believed, Chelsea made three attempts and offered big money to lure him to the Bridge and out of his self imposed sabbatical after the sacking of Roberto Di Matteo and last summer.
News reports this past weekend seem to indicate that although Roman Abramovich is willing to do what it takes to land the ex Barcelona Manager, Guardiola has his sights set on Manchester City at the end of the current season.
There have been reports that City are willing to make Guardiola a serious offer of around £10m AFTER TAX per year to become their manager.
Now I am sure that Roman could and would match that offer but to me this all comes down to the situation with managers at our club and what has happened since Jose Mourino left the club.
If reports earlier in the season are to be believed, Guardiola is "uncomfortable" with the situation at Chelsea and the stability of the position as manager. You can't blame him can you!
Roberto Mancini has done a fantastic job at City taking them as far as he has so far but their performance in the Champions League in the two seasons he has been in the competition has been a disaster. As a result, Guardiola is now waiting in the wings to take the club that step further.
Being honest, I believe the title is United's to lose and if Mancini doesn't win it, expect there to be a change at Eastlands in the summer.
The second blow to Roman and Chelsea could also turn out to be Falcao. We have been linked with a move for the Colombian marksman for a long time and we have seen all sorts of reports of a £48m bid by Chelsea to activate the release clause inserted into his contract.
Whether that happens is another thing but by all accounts, he has been talking up a move to the French League and with mega bucks PSG waiting in the wings, Abramovich could miss out on the second of his major targets this summer.
Of course it's silly season at the moment because of the transfer window and all kinds of stories and reports appearing every hour until the window closes.
However, we have to consider the fact that we could miss out on these two and consider where we would go from here to find alternatives.
If we miss out on Guardiola will Rafa get the job on a full time basis? What other alternatives would we have? If we miss out on Falcao, what other options are there?

Is pep actually that good????? He had messi, iniesta and xavi in his barca squad! He wanna win the lge and champs lge every year with players like that!!!! And if reports are correct he will be the highest paid manager ever if he comes to us.... Is it worth paying somebody all that money just to sack him 6 months down the line like all our other managers!!!!!
ReplyDeleteNo wonder that people are sceptical when it comes to Chelsea these days. Even the supporters are starting to think that the club is being handled like a circus.
ReplyDeleteJose is leaving real madrid this season and in a survey for real madrid(board or something)to be the next manager: rafa benitez was the favourite. Hopefully we can get jose back:) he wants to come to the Prem but hopefully not Utd. I think if we don't get Falcao it isn't so bad because we could get 2 young strikers with 48m. Unless we could get a swap deal with atlmadrid, torres + 25-35m for falcao - that would be good too.
