TRIBUTE VIDEO - The Di Matteo Way, A Legendary Story

A week ago Chelsea sacked Roberto Di Matteo six months after guiding Chelsea to winning the holy grail, the trophy Roman Abramovich, the Board, the players and the Chelsea fans wanted and by typing this down now on paper makes it really hit home just how ridiculous the last seven days has been. Rather than focus on the negative, I want to pay tribute to Di Matteo.

Roberto Di Matteo was different to any other managers at this club in recent times because he is "one of us!". A legend from his playing days and taking over the club when it was clear it was in dire need, Robbie stepped in, steadied the ship and gave us the day we will never, ever forget.

He understood the club, the past, our desire, everything around here and above anything else, the supporters.

He took on a huge task when asked to "fill in" until the end of the season. He had to steady the ship, get everyone to pull together and to fight for each other and the shirt.

Within a couple of games it became obvious that he had done that. His celebration on the pitch after the extra time win over Napoli at home was reminiscent of Jose Mourinho from a few years ago. It was even better at the Nou Camp as Fernando Torres slotted home the goal that took us to the final in Munich.

He orchestrated the destruction of Tottenham at Wembley in the FA Cup semi final and then masterminded a victory over Liverpool to bring the FA Cup to Stamford Bridge yet again. All this before Munich.

Munich is a day and night we will never ever forget and once again Robbie got things right. Bertrand starting, Torres' coming on to chase the game and the final decision, deciding who would take the penalties and when.

The thing is with Robbie looking in from the outside, he seemed naturally calm and relaxed and you can imagine how that fed through to the players. He was organised and tactically aware with a special human approach that got the best out of his players.

He never moaned or complained about anything. He was asked to do a job and he just got on with it.

Robbie started the revolution of this club this season by playing a different way with exciting football. He was the first of many to try something new and to stick with it and we have seen some fantastic performances against the likes of Arsenal and Spurs away this season that we will look back on when the season finishes with pride.

Yes we have suffered a blip and Robbie has paid the price. He could of ran to the press and the media and spoke out of turn about what has happened personally to him but once again, the man remains dignified and prefers to look back on his time here and that night in Munich than to focus on the negatives of seven days ago.

That's just him though isn't it. That's Robbie.

Roberto, I personally would like to thank you for everything you have ever done for my club Chelsea FC as a player and as a manager. You came here and were a class apart and for the most part as our manager you were even more so.

We can never ever thank you enough for making our dreams as Chelsea fans all over the world come true that night in Munich. As much as we have all had a go about what's happened to you now, we look upon the time you were here with fondness and happy memories.
