The writing is on the wall whether we like it or not, Rafa Benitez will be named as early as tomorrow as Chelsea manager on a temporary basis until the end of the season as Roman Abramovich throws his last throw of he dice to get the best out of Fernando Torres.
Benitez has in the past openly admitted his interest in the Chelsea job and has done so once again today. Reading on Twitter, Benitez has been in Abu Dhabi working as a TV pundit for the Champions League this week and has cancelled his commitments and is heading to London tonight!
Benitez has also said on this website:
“I have just found out [about Di Matteo]. Obviously Chelsea is a top side and they can compete for trophies so it goes in this category.I expect Benitez to be named Manager until the end of the season as soon as possible so I am asking YOU the Chelsea fans what that means for the remainder of our season?
Asked if Chelsea had already made an approach, he replied: “You ask directly, I cannot answer directly. In football a lot of people are talking so we will see what happens in the next few days. I am looking for a club that can challenge for trophies and Chelsea is one of these clubs.”
He will not be a popular appointment at all with Chelsea fans and I can understand that but the most important thing to think of right now is the fact that we need to move forward and pick ourselves up.
People have argued today that RDM lacked tactical awareness at times when he came up against good opposition and tactically astute managers. Last night is the perfect example. Juventus AND Shakhtar were both well organised and well drilled into their shape defensively and in attack. Chelsea have been lacking against both teams and the gamble on the false 9 formation didn't work.
Bentiez's record against Chelsea wasn't bad at all as Liverpool manager and if anything, we have to move forward with open minds despite personal feelings.
It's vitally important that Roman and Chelsea make the right appointment for the good of the Football Club and if they believe in Benitez, so be it.
I still personally believe that with football these days, it's as much as being a man manager and having the ability to put your arm around the shoulder of the players as being tactically aware and a good motivator.
Is Rafa Benitez that person? We will see shortly!
Like I said, forget other people being linked. Rafa Benitez WILL BE the next Chelsea Manager!
What do you think?
