I was casually scrolling through twitter on Tuesday trying
to find a reason to avoid work for a little longer, and I found a great one!
One football account was tweeting the wages of some of the premier league’s
bigger teams. It was interesting to see what each player at each club was
getting paid, none more so than Chelsea
(obviously).
Here is what each player at Chelsea is earning:
Eden Hazard - £185,000
Fernando Torres - £175,000
John Terry - £175,000
Frank Lampard - £140,000
Ashley Cole - £120,000
Petr Cech - £100,000
Gary Cahill - £80,000
David Luiz - £75,000
John Obi Mikel - £75,000
Juan Mata - £67,000
Daniel Sturridge - £60,000
Ramires - £55,000
Oscar - £40,000
Paulo Ferreira - £40,000
Ryan Bertrand - £40,000
Marko Marin - £35,000
Cesar Azpilicueta - £30,000
Victor Moses - £30,000
Branislav Ivanovic - £28,500
Ross Turnbull - £17,000
Oriol Romeu - £15,000
Fernando Torres - £175,000
John Terry - £175,000
Frank Lampard - £140,000
Ashley Cole - £120,000
Petr Cech - £100,000
Gary Cahill - £80,000
David Luiz - £75,000
John Obi Mikel - £75,000
Juan Mata - £67,000
Daniel Sturridge - £60,000
Ramires - £55,000
Oscar - £40,000
Paulo Ferreira - £40,000
Ryan Bertrand - £40,000
Marko Marin - £35,000
Cesar Azpilicueta - £30,000
Victor Moses - £30,000
Branislav Ivanovic - £28,500
Ross Turnbull - £17,000
Oriol Romeu - £15,000
For fear of plagiarism, the
account that tweeted this was @Football_Tweet (definitely worth following) and
this was what they said about their own source:
This is sourced from the latest version of the Sports Interactive football management simulation game, Football Manager, who have access to the official wage figures from Premier League clubs.
I know some of you may scoff about
this being sourced from Football Manager, but from what I have researched after
this I think they do get access to this information. Furthermore these wages
seem to be accurate.
What does everyone think
about these figures then? Who is overpaid, who is underpaid, who is justifying
their money and how much more ridiculous will wages get???
Whoa, the rumours were true,
Hazard is on crazy money. I just wrote a blog on how I was happy with Hazard’s
form, but I think a player at his age who is new to the club should never earn that amount of money.
It’s easy to pull your hair
out when you look at Torres’ wages too. A reason to sell him if he
doesn’t start justifying it soon.
I believe Terry’s wages rose
to that figure when we signed Torres due to a clause in his contract, although
I’m not sure why it didn’t happen again with Hazard.
Ramires, Mata and especially
Ivanovic are all underpaid in my opinion. I say underpaid when you look at the
wider context of how much every other player earns, because, of course, they
are still earning a huge amount.
It really is ridiculous how
much the modern footballer earns. When I comment on whether a player is
overpaid, underpaid, etc, I of course mean this when taking into account the
financial climate of football. Figures like this should not exist.
What can you do though? If a
player and a club don’t agree on wages, then often that player will be capable of finding a club
that will meet his demands. The signing of Hazard is a good example. He doesn’t
deserve anywhere near that much, and say we only wanted to give him £70,000 a
week, the demand for his signature would have led someone to offer him more.
Eventually it was us that offered the most, in a saga that may well have looked
like an auction behind the scenes, both in transfer fees and wages.
If anyone is on twitter, it’s
interesting to compare what clubs’ wages look like, so take a look at the
account I mentioned earlier. All the teams are there, but I don’t really want
to list them all now.

Carefree & KTBFFH!
Mata, rami & brana look under paid compared with luiz,Cole & even terry Oscar I can see because of age but marin didn't come for the money did he.
ReplyDeleteMata and Ivanovic are definitely underpaid, Ramires too. Hazard is great but aint that a bit too much for a 21 yr old?
ReplyDeletePetr cech is also under paid. He should be paid nothing less than £120
ReplyDeleteUNDERPAID??? CHRIST ALMIGHTY...
ReplyDeleteI think hazard is overpaid, mata, brani, moses nd oscar I guess r underpaid
ReplyDeleteHazard i think is overpaid. They should consider paying ivanovic, mata, ramires and moses more considering their contribution to the team
