Chelsea FC have just released an announcement on the official website that confirms the club has made a total profit of 1.4m in the year ending 30th June 2012.
This is a big deal, with the UEFA Financial Fair Play fast approaching, it looks like we are well on our way to reaching the requirements set down in these new rules. For those of you who are unfamiliar with these requirements, I will break it down as simply as possible;
If a club wants to compete in European competitions, they have to at least break even in financial terms "over a fixed period" (profit needs to cover losses). These profits must come from "football related activities", so Roman will not be able to tip the scales with a cash injection if we are at a loss for the year.
We are also the 5th largest club in Europe in terms of revenue, which is a testament to how successful the Blues have become on the field!

I think it is safe to say that the club has grown even larger in the last 12 months. The Champions League victory has led to heightened global recognition, which obviously means more fans and also means more lucrative sponsorship deals being thrown our way (e.g Gazprom) because of the extra exposure.
All in all, i tip my hat to Mr Roman Abramovic! He has invested his money, his time and effort into our beloved club, he has taken us to new heights and he is now reaping the benefits after Drogba and co brought us home the "Holy Grail" from Munich!
