Now this one has been brewing for a while so I thought I would get people talking and discussing their opinions on a separate thread.
Let me start by saying that Frank Lampard is a LEGEND at this club and in football in general and it's important that isn't underestimated.
When he eventually hangs up his boots and retires from playing, only then will people realise just how outstanding he has been for our club.
As we all know Frank made his name by making his late run into the box and scoring goals for fun. He has a goal scoring record from middle that is second to none, and you will be hard pushed to find someone else who is his equal.
Here is Lampard's career stats:
Now we all know that Lampard scored 20+ goals per season for an incredible FIVE SEASONS running. After that time he has suffered with injuries in 2010-11 and was out for three months but still scored 13 goals and considering AVB benched him and RDM played him in a more withdrawn position in midfield, last season he scored 16 goals in all competitions
Having won what he has at this club I find it incredible that people are slagging him off and speaking of him the way they do.
OK, he has been asked to play in a different role under RDM and has had to adapt his game. For the most part it has been a success as his distribution of the ball is first rate and his work rate in front of our back four seems to go un-noticed (Look at the Nou Camp for example).
Now people keep banging on about our "Double pivot" position in the middle of the pitch and have claimed that the combination of Lampard and Mikel do not work together. In fact, people are blaming Lampard for the Atletico Madrid defeat on here but as per my tactical analysis post, I disagree.
Lampard is 34 now and is keen to negotiate an extension to his Chelsea contract. Do you think he deserves it? Would you like to see Lampard stay on at Chelsea? Who's to say he wouldn't be able to fit into a Andrea Pirlo role here?
I posted another question this morning asking whether or not Chelsea should go with the old 4-3-3- formation to provide cover in wide areas or stick with the 4-2-3-1 formation?
No matter what, in both areas I believe Lampard has an important part to play. The thing is with Lampard and he has said it himself in pre season, no ones position in the team is safe if they do not perform.
You simply cannot buy experience and along with JT, Cole and Cech it's vital to have in the team. You have to remember that Lampard hasn't played a full season in the last two years and still has plenty of life left in him.
I make no apologies at all for being a Frank Lampard fan and I never will. If you asked me to pick a first eleven week in, week out in the Premier League/ Champions League, I will always have Lampard in there because of everything about his game.
His ability on the ball, to score goals, to pick a pass and his defensive attributes that have got better and better as he has got older.
So for me he starts. What about you people? What do YOU the Chelsea fan reading this think about Lampard and his role at Chelsea now?
Am I living in the past or do you believe like me, that is should still be an important part of this season?
KTBFFH
He needs to go away... He is ruining the new Chelsea and I hate him for it.
ReplyDeleteI don't doubt the fact dat he's our legend but just like drogba,he should take a walk while the ovation is loudest.he's won everything at chelsea so he should give oscar and romeu a chance. Our midfield lacks speed and energy and that's not gonna help mata and hazard.
ReplyDeleteTotally agree.
ReplyDeleteLamps is a Chelsea legend and any one who disagrees to that is clearly not a serious Chelsea supporter.
Also it would be interesting to see how his stats match up to the so called "perfect players"
Who never get any stick from anyone, like scoles, giggs, gerard over the last 12 years.
However I do believe that he is not quite to box to box player he once was, so a change in roles makes sense.
Give him the chance and I bet he scores 20+ this season.
Well done frank!
Wel frank now lacks the energy to inflick maximum damage to the opposing team. For the double pivotal role he lacks aggressivenes like tiote or song,Obi, ivanovic and Lampard are now thw weak link and they are responsible for the Athletico defeat.lampard must now play as a sub and only when we have a 3nil lead so as to maintain our win, otherwise he is past his best
ReplyDeleteI agree with you 100%
ReplyDeleteADMIN we r used to u showing DOUBLE STANDRDS.the same time last season (during AVBs time) u were supporting the opinion that Lampard shuld be rested n a creative midfielder(Luka Modric) called in.today u r saying a different thing.Lampard has been a great player 4 us n will b remembered 4 his contribution.but now all we see is an overun player.u talkin of his goal scorin record.thats no more.off recent most of his goals have been penalties or against ''weak teams'.its been long since we saw him scorin against a big team (man u,city, spurs, arse, newcastle n the big clubs in UEFA) apart 4rm the penalties ofcos. If we had another creative player in his position,we will b tokin sumthn different.Giggs n Scholes r legends but they r not always regulars, they r called up wen needed.thats what Di Matteo shuld be doin (if he had guts).he aint performing week in week out.so claiming he shuld b in ur first team for all games is very INSINCERE.furthermore even if we bring another creative mid he may still score 4 us.even Drogba,Ballack,Makelele were legends but still moved left the club n we still movin ON.so RDM,GET RID OF HIM IF U CAN.unless u dont want to upset him.
ReplyDeletelampard is a legend. hes given his life to cfc, and still is a 15+ goal/yr player. he still has the class to play with the best. as a longtime blues fan he is 1 of my idols & he has earned his spot in rdms side.
ReplyDeleteD guy dt blames obi n ivano 4our lose 2 A-marid mst b sick n probably dnt watch d game..n as 4lampard case i tink he a gud player bt shld b comin 4rm d bench n chelsea shld stick 2d 4231 formatn jst bcs we had 1bad game shld nt mak us lose sight of our goalz..bluez 4lyf
ReplyDeleteYou wrote this article in support of your compatriot(Lumpard). I hate you, and I will never read your amateurish piece.
ReplyDeleteIt's so clear, you're an enemy of progress. Can Josh or Debruyne, do any worse than Lumpard? Yet they are sent on loans, so as to accomodate him. If you're genuinely honest with us, you wont put up an article, so Lumpard can sign you an autograph when you visit Cobham.
