So what's your take on the situation that seems to have developed in relation to Ashley Cole's contract? Do you think he will leave Chelsea?
For me, I think it's rubbish but in saying that, Cole hasn't done what he did before when rumours of him asking for £200k per week appeared and that's by denying it on Twitter.
I guess the problem has come about because of the "apparent" Chelsea club policy of only offering players over 30 a one-year contract extension.
Cole is 31 and in my view, still one of the best left backs in the world let alone the Premier League. He still has 2 years left in him at the top level but the question remains if he would be happy signing a one year extension each summer.
As a result, we have also seen the "rumour" that PSG and Carlo Ancelotti are more than happy to offer him a big money move to France for a minimum of two years. Whether or not that would appeal to Cole is another thing.
I guess we have to also consider the fact that winning the Champions League is huge and for the likes of Didier Drogba, Cole, Lampard, Cech, Essien and JT, they have now won everything at our club.
Drogba left on the biggest high ever, Essien has moved away to continue his football under his "Daddy" Jose Mourinho and I just wonder if Cole will be tempted to take one final payday, one final life experience in football in a different country and make this his last season at Chelsea?
It's funny isn't it. When big decisions come our way we often tell ourselves to listen to our hearts and our heads. My heart tells me that Ashley Cole loves Chelsea, loves the people he works with every day and would never want to put an end to his journey in Chelsea blue.
However, my head is thinking that now like I said, the temptation of one final pay day could be just too tempting as after all, we haven't heard a dickie bird from the man himself.
The emergence of Ryan Bertrand is another thing to consider. Bertrand is very, very similar to Cole and is already pushing for a regular start.
Could Ashley Cole decide to leave Chelsea, what do you think?

This is a very tough call for me. AC is one of the best left backs in the world hands down and hasn't shown a whole lot of drop off despite getting up there in age. With that being said we gave Bertrand that 5 year deal for a reason so it kind of puts Chelsea in a tough spot.
ReplyDeleteI would gladly offer him a 2 year deal if he would accept that. I think he will still be able to continue to play at a high level for those years and then we can bring in Bertrand to be out full time left back. After that I'm sure AC could still get another huge pay day from another rich club despite being on the older side.
