Ok people I will be honest, I never actually got to see the game as I am in Suffolk this weekend for a wedding. I had admitted defeat and had set my SKY+ to record it, hope to catch some highlights this morning and write a quick post about the goals etc.
To my delight after we all had been out for a per wedding dinner, it was agreed to get to a pub down the road to watch the second half. So imagine it, I am sitting at dinner wondering what was going on and causally checking my phone for updates and I see we are 1-0 down, then 2-0, and then 3-0!!.
Not having watched the game I couldn't believe it. Was this really happening? Surely we had a strong side out that had started off the season really well didn't we?.
We had just got the bill when I checked on Twitter and saw we had then conceded a fourth goal and I made the decision to not bother and to wait to watch the whole game to draw my own conclusions tomorrow night when I get home.
This morning, I have seen comments made on here, Twitter and by the players and if Ashley Cole Tweets "No passion, no fight, sorry CFC fans!" then it has to have been a nightmare.
So to you the Chelsea fans reading this post I want to know your opinion on where it went wrong last night. Was it the team selection, tactics or did we just come up against a better side or a lethal finisher?
Like I said having not watched the game it's hard for me to give a realistic view. What I will say is thinking about it this morning it could be a blessing in disguise and that is the only positive we can take from it.
We have started off our season really well, scoring plenty of goals and taking quite a few plaudits. Maybe we were getting beyond ourselves. Maybe we were getting carried away and maybe Paul Merson was right about Chelsea this season.
Merson spoke on Soccer Saturday about our new signings and said that he "worries for Chelsea as they leave themselves wide open at the back and if they come up against a good side, Chelsea would be ripped apart!"
Is that what happened last night?
I feel that this was a trophy we wanted to win and we are all gutted this morning. I feel for those Blues that have travelled out to Monaco I really do.
Like I said we need to try and think of the positive from last night and judging by all the players reaction and RDM's reaction, it is a kick up the arse, a reality check and a wake up call to refocus all of us.
I just hope we look back at the game last night as a turning point as surely performance wise, we couldn't get any worse could we?
Win or lose up the blues!

The most disappointing part about the match is that it didn't seem that anyway was really trying atlest for the part I watched because I immediately changed the channel after the fourth had went in I couldn't bring myself to watch anymore. Basically as soon as the ball got passed mikel it was a goal, our defense was scattered and just a mess and and falcoa just highlight that with a microscope. We didn't hold much possession in midfield, the passing wasn't as precise as on previous days and for the most part we had given up going into the second half.
ReplyDeleteThe whole team were under performance especially mikel and ivanovic. As i always say mikel is one of the worse player chelsea has ever signed. He lacks creativity and has problems with his defensive abilities. Half fit essien is far better than fully fit mikel.
ReplyDeleteHow can you say that about mikel? The defence was flat, luiz was busy running forward when a threat was behind, ramires was giving wrong passes. RDM should stop playing ramires as a winger and luiz should be cautioned! How can any ball that gets to the defence be a goal! Very poor for chelsea
DeleteI completely agree I think mikel has to go. I would have much rather saw Essien playing that role. At this point I think romeu should be given a start or two to see if he's a better option which I think he is.
DeleteWell, at some point of the game i could'nt help but laugh, because Chelsea was actually bringing to life the comedy of football. It was as if no one knew their positions anymore & when i remember it still is funny. Luiz was'nt sure anymore if he was a mid fielder or a defender & almost scored against his side but luckily hitting the bar. At some point i thought cahill was torres, given his height, was way up front. Hazard seemed weak & mata as usual got worn out esp in the 2nd half. Mikel lacked creativity, had some good foot work but after that just didn't know what to do with the ball. Torres lol o el nino, seemed to be scared of the ball as he hid behind defenders as if it was hide & seek. I always had my fears about torres being our main man he will always be under pressure & will never hit the form he had in liverpool.... Its a shame that the transfer window is now closed, this means our mid field better shape up or we will suffer till January. There is this lack of ambition in chelsea's games & it came to light last night, when they had the ball they rather knock it around at the back than actually go for goals. Atletico as even the commentary went, truly put chelsea in their place, it was also asked if they came to monaco for sight seeing! The passes were bad, there was next to no defense & zero attack we only looked threatening in pull outs & that was only in the 1st half. The game ended 4-1 but truly it should have been 6-1 or 7-1 given the missed own goal, miscalculated hit to the face by an opponent & an un called penalty. The Chelsea i saw last night looked as if they have'nt trained in weeks if not months, a single Atletico player toke 5!! Chelsea players for a twist in chelsea's half... With some falling to the ground (that's why 1 of the reasons it was so funny to me) even Platini (uefa president) looked with disgust on his face as if to say "is this what we came out to see would'nt bayern have put up a better show" honestly after the laughs i had i never felt so ashamed to be a chelsea fan like i did last night. To make it worse Falco should have been a chelsea player last season but we slaked as we usually do in transfers till Atletico had him & now we want him?!.... I said it before & i'll say it again we are the kings of Europe but don't play like it infact we earned ourselves the name 'SHAME OF EUROPE' last night. I truly hope there are better days ahead because this season unready looks black for the blues.
ReplyDeleteThe whole team played very bad but not mikel, can he play the holding midfield and be defending at the same time? David, ivanovic, ramires, mata where not in the game and as soon as any ball passes our two holding midfielders, its a goal or almost one.... Cahil and David both need to step up and I think mata needs rest...
ReplyDeleteUp blues

ReplyDeleteI agree totally with you....
DeleteI felt our best player on that pitch yesterday was Mikel. Everyother person had questionmarks. That backline was a real joke! Torres? I have nothing to say to the young man really cos I'm convinced he'll never hit the kinda form he hit @ Liverpool, he's justified his pricetag with the goal against Barca last season, no more excuses, get someone to cough out 30mill and sell him asap. So ashamed of those bunch that forgot the shirt they were wearing yesternight.
ReplyDeleteMikel awful don't understand why RDM continues to pick him,he's to slow, poor defensive qualities and lacks imagination, lampard is to old to slow, ivanovic was very bad couldn't get a decent cross out and defended like a three year old, torres looked over awed by the occasion, hazard never got in the rythm of the game and luiz is well err luiz!!
ReplyDeleteMikel lacks imagination! What kind of english is that? People will do anything to showcase their hatred of this guy. Mikel was actually the only player to show up,Lampard kept going forward,Luiz was pathetic,Ramires and Ivanovic on the right were crap.
DeleteSome say Mikel was poor. Some say Mikel was one of the few who played very well. I agree that Mikel is the best at his position and has proven to be so game In, game out. We have to be honest to ourselves and the truth is that Lamps hurts us at that position while also leaving Mikel alone/exposed. Lamps is used to pushing forward, attacking or atleast making the final pass. That is not Lamps role in this position and we have seen these past few games that he is often pushing to far up front, not making it back, leaving others stranded in the centre. It is not lamps fault, it is ours for placing him there. It is true that Miereles is a better pick at that position. Let's talk abt Imagination. The more defensive the position, less imagination necessary. Luis has plenty of imagination and that is detrimental to his game at that position, and detrimental to the team. Defense areas are not where we want our players to be worried by being imaginative. Ramires does not fit with our new attacking midfield style. Either he will be benched or needs to be moved to defensive midfield with mikel Miereles and lamps. Oscar mata and hazard should always play together. Only sub = Moses . Sturridge is a ball of talent and I would rather my STRIKER be as selfish as he likes then be casper the ghost up front. Torres and Sturridge should be alternating until one seperates himself from the other. These realizations and changes will be needed to see us defeat the elite.
Deletethe blues were apathetic last night. nobody cared out there, the workrate wasn't good, and the team looked pedestrian. there was no cutting passes or attacks until the 1 goal late. defensively, we looked like a league 1 team. luiz pretty much played mid the whole game, and also nearly put 1 in himself. ivanovic was a nightmare, cought out time after time. but he continued to make hopeless runs forward. cahill was out of position a lot as well. cole was decent, and i applaud his effort when the rest of the side gave up. i felt ashamed to be wearing a chelsea jersey during the game. i hope we can turn it around before the next epl matches, and the cl match v juve.
ReplyDeleteThis game was an eye opener to show us that there is a lot more work to be done. The defence was just plain shit, the midfield was just running around like a headless chicken. Lampard should never be paired with mikel again as our deep lying midfielders cause forward a lot and does track back quickly enough instead meireless should be in that position because he stays in that position and still creates from that position and also covers the defence. Ivanovic for God knows why can't defend anymore. He goes forward and can't get a single cross into the box, always getting caught out of position, and always ball watching as players make runs behind him. Ramires for some reason keeps giving the ball away, mata, hazard, and torres didn't much of the ball cause our mid kept getting runover. I thought oscar did quite well coming into the second half with linking up and getting the ball in the athleticos half. All in all RDM needs to figure out the players he needs to play in certain positions and also the players need to step up their play and i'm happy this happened in the super cup and not in a very very important game and also not late in the season cause RDM can go back to the drawing board and sort it out.
