It's deadline day and expect another 12 hours of madness! One rumour that has literally come out of the blue this morning is that Arsene Wenger is considering a bid to take Michael Essien to the Arsenal!.
The thing is, as each season passes by and each transfer window comes and goes, you can get an idea of the moves certain clubs will be making. For example, Andy Carroll to West Ham indicates to me that Liverpool will be coming after Danny Sturridge today and Arsene Wenger allowing Alex Song to leave the club (which was surprising to say the least) indicates to all of us that he is looking for someone to fill his boots.
There is where the interest in Michael Essien comes in. Essien isn't getting a game here, he wants to play being the age he is and Wenger needs that ball winner, strong character in the middle of the park and let's be honest, Essien fits the bill perfectly.
I spoke the other day about Essien after rumours appeared that there was interest in him from Turkey. If the Arsenal came in for him, with pretty much a guarantee of first team football alongside Mikel Arteta and Jack Wilshire (when fit), I think Essien will jump ship and that's nothing against Chelsea at all.
As I have said before and I mean no disrespect to Essien at all when I say this because he has been a fantastic servant to our club and has played more than his part in the recent successes we have had but, there are doubts about his knee's after suffering with problems that have restricted his appearances in two out of the last three seasons.
Right now with Mikel, Lampard, Romeu and Meireles fighting it out for two of the deeper lying positions in RDM's 4-2-3-1 formation, I think Essien fits the bill perfectly at the Arsenal.
Of course I would love Essien to stay here and be a part of our season but you can't ignore the lack of playing time and involvement under RDM.
I expect this one may happen before the deadline closes.
KTBFFH!
