When news broke last night that Andy Carroll had signed for West Ham on loan with an option to make the transfer permanent next summer, I thought to myself "That's Sturridge off then!".
It's a shame really isn't it. RDM even made a point of talking up Sturridge yesterday in his pre match press conference ahead of tonight's Super Cup in Monaco.
Fernando Torres was centre of attention during the presser bearing in mind he is about to face the club he loves and supports tonight but as I said, Di Matteo was keen to re-iterate that we also have Danny Sturridge.
Deadline day is crazy it really is. One minute there is nothing and then a rumour breaks, gathers pace and before you know it someone is at the Bridge having a medical and signed!.
I really, really hope Sturridge stays at Chelsea and IS an important part of our make up this season. If Chelsea are willing to let him go then expect both Liverpool and Spurs to make their move for him.
I think the Carroll deal is massive and is a real signal of intent from Brendan Rogers to take Sturridge to Merseyside. Whether it's on loan or as a permanent deal is another thing but do not rule out AVB in all this.
When we wake up tomorrow morning we will know either way if Sturridge is still a Chelsea player and I really hope he is.
KTBFFH!
