Watching Soccer Saturday this morning and comments made by Paul Merson, I want to open this up for debate this afternoon ahead of what will be a big, big test against Newcastle.
Everyone is talking about Chelsea's attacking players and rightly so as they do look really exciting, at the same time Merson believes that against the big, big teams, Chelsea at the moment look exposed at the back and maybe he has a point.
The same question was asked of Gary Cahill after we beat Reading in midweek and he said:
What do you people think? Has Roberto Di Matteo taken a risk with our formation and the players in those attacking positions?
I personally believe it is a risk worth taking because we have the two midfielders playing in the deeper role that should compensate for our attacking play. If anything, if Lampard pushes forward and leaves Mikel as the holding midfielder then it would be similar to our 4-3-3 formation as Lampard and Ramires used to press forward anyway.
Chelsea will come up against a real test later against Newcastle and we will see if Chelsea ARE exposed.
KTBFFH!

“We have got attacking minded players that want to show their flair and ability. Maybe defensively we might be a little bit more exposed. That is something us at the back have got to organise and deal with. I don’t think you want to stop the way they play because I thought the attacking players were fantastic.”(Source)
